wildmanbaker wrote: Corkey, I think, if it were me, I would do some checking on the RTA tax. That seems very high. I remember when we the people changed the auto license fees to $30 regardless. My 99 Dodge truck went from over $600 to $35 for the year. When I purchased our MH in 04, the license was $34 for the year. Gas was $1.32 a gallon. There was very little difference between the diesel for towing our TT and the gas for our new MH, for the same trip. We were ecstatic. But now, we barley can afford fuel for trips. Good sugestion and it was the first thing I did with my first tab increase because of RTA tab tax. I was told it was correct as it is calculated based on value and class. Here is the State Web Site about the tax. At least a months worth of reading to figure it all out. At least the cost is doable, but I just wish I was going to see rapid transit if I have to pay for it.
I apologize to the OP if this takes us offtrack. This is my last post on license fees, ... it's a blood pressure thing.

In Washington State we have what the State calls tabs! There two different stickers that go in the upper right hand corner of our license plates as deemed by the Washington State Patrol. One tab is numerals from 1 to 12 (these represent each month of the year, and there color coded each month has a different color.) the month tab is to the left, of the year tab and they are color coded. There is also a Washington State law that says if the month tab and the year tab are not side by side in the upper right hand corner of your license plate, you are violation of some motor vehicle code. I asked a Washington State Trooper if he ever cited anyone for improper tab placement and he told me no. But he said he was aware of the law and uses it for fishing trips! For those of you that don't know what a fishing trip is : It's when the police find something wrong with your vehicle or the way your driving your vehicle to legally pull you over "That's when the fishing trip begins" the Trooper added he pulls vehicles over more for not having a light shining on your rear license plate then tabs.

In Washington State (Kitsap County), I paid $140.75 . My tabs were $95.75, plus a Washington State Park donation of $5.00, and finally I had to pay $40.00 for new license plates. There's a new Washington State Law enacted by the Washington State Patrol that says you will buy new license plates every 7 years (after original purchase date of your license plates) due to the reflector material on the plates wears off, and the Troopers can't read a license plate that is over 7 years old at night? It doesn't matter if your vehicle is garaged, has a license plate cover over it (which is illegal in Washington State) or you can still see the reflector material.

Well since moonbeam and company couldn't agree on anything our tags dropped this year, unfortunately AFTER I registered the motorhome, but at least when my wife's Aviator renews in a couple weeks I get the reduced rate! 2 years ago when we raised the rates it cost me $100 more than when the truck was new! The motorhome was $350 more than new. Our 06 Dolphin cost us $780 this last April, now next years unless they again decide drivers should fund the state for all costs will be about $450!

zmotorsports wrote: WOW! I knew Utah's RV registrations were a little above the norm but didn't realize they were that far off. Utah bases their property tax on an RV off a percentage of the MSRP when it was new. Mine have been going down a little each year but this past year I wrote the check for just over $1400.00 for the year. In 2007 when we puchased the coach and it was four years old at the time we payed about $1900.00.

I won't grumble TOO much. As SRT pointed out, here in MN it's based on GVW. We're at 26,000 lbs. $240 per year. And where oh where do those tax $$$ go?
