Been at beautiful Ray Roberts Lake State Park, Isle du Bois Unit since 4/1. Leaving end of October and intend to come back in '12 if they will have us.

I've had a great boss, but the job has been boring. A fairly slow visitor center isn't for me. Sometimes 3 or 4 hours without a visitor. I've enjoyed the interface with the public, and feel I've helped a lot of them.
Next season I will be applying for campground host type positions. I would really like to work for this Ranger district, maybe in a seasonal, paid position.

Hello from Yellowstone! We are starting to hear of the dates people are leaving, and merchandise is starting to be condensed to other stores. it is so hard to believe its starting to wind down!
We are at a store open til Nov 7th, one of the last. But time has flown and we are glad we did this!
Any other comments on your summer gig?
Nancy
Skip/Char - where are you? we haven't said hello yet!

Nancy, can you (or anyone else for that matter) provide contact information for someone we could talk to at YNP about camp hosting? We live 4 hours north and the DW is thinking about doing a summer of camp hosting there while I remain up here to work.
TIA, Dave

We have finished our summer jobs. Had awesome bosses, awesome other workampers, awesome summer residents, some awesome week or/and weekend visitors. Just an awesome place to be at. Plus an awesome area to play in. Will be putting my review of the place on here in a couple weeks.

As for coming back. No. Because we want to travel to other awesome parts of the USA and workamp there. So the awesome campground we worked at will be looking for some awesome workampers for next summer.

Not going back to the same place. We were at Palisade State Park in Utah. Free golf. The people there were all great, but the park is just
crazy. On weekends the dayuse people take over the campground and you can't keep them out of the campsites. Not enough support from the rangers, and the hosts just can't do it all. Too stressful for us. This was the first hosting job we left early.

Next year we already have a position at Sage Hills in Washington. Sounds like it's just up our alley. We love the free golf and I don't think the campground there will be so 'out of control'.

Dave et all, Sorry for computer delays/problems... I think the NPS, National Park Service runs the campgrounds. Their website should give you a 'job' link, but i will ask Rangers that come in for coffee, if they have advice..
Delaware North and Xanterra Corps lease from the Park to run their stores.
For those of you asking about working for Delaware North Comp, (DNC), I would like you to contact me thru my personal email at
nancyjerryg@gmail.com
Overall, it is a good company, but I was surprised at quite a few things that I would like not to post this way. We work until Nov 6 at Canyon Adventure Store and would like to be discreet.
Love the opportunity in the park on days off!!

"Would we come back"? Not in a million years!! I thought we could withstand just about anything but the owner is thoughtless, selfish and unkind to all of her employees.

We spent a month in each of two Oregon State parks as volunteer interpretive hosts. For the month of July we lived at Cape Lookout State Park and were volunteers at Cape Mears Lighthouse, which was a wonderful experience. The campground is pretty tight and we were not really enamored of our site, but the experience at the lighthouse was wonderful!

For the month of August we were doing the same type of thing, staying at Washburne State Park and volunteering at Heceta Head Lighthouse until it closed down for renovation and then the last two weeks we were park interpreters at Washburne. This is a very pretty park with nice spaces, but the park rangers were less than enthusiastic about volunteers and there is no cellular service of any kind or TV unless you happen to be hwere you can mange to get your dish pointed through the trees, which only a few sites allow. We would not be inclined to return to this park.

^X2. The DW is "retired on my income" and strongly considering doing camp hosting next summer, hopefully in either Yellowstone or Glacier National Parks. I have a three day weekend every other week, and both parks are about a four hour drive from our S&B and my work, so I can go to whichever park she is at frequently. Being a partially disabled (retired) vet I have a golden access passport for free entry, so that helps too.
Thanks again for your help.
Dave
