Huh? Please read the full post. He went 75 only at the 3 passing lane areas. Once they were over he slowed back down to 45-50. This was Hwy 2 south of Glacier NP in the US.

A two lane road? With pull outs? 45-50 MPH? Is that a bad thing?
tsetsaf wrote: It takes a few seconds to pull out of the way. I do it all the time. It reduces stress, allows traffic to flow freely, and makes everyone's day a bit nicer.
Driving more leisurely reduces stress too.

What is missing is that many states, Nevada included; REQUIRE a driver to pull over and allow traffic to pass if more than 5 cars are behind it EVEN if they are doing the speed limit.
What I just read is what I used to call a "traffic enforcer". They believe that if 55 is good, 45 would be better and they are slowing down to help keep traffic slowed. It is wrong and leads to accidents as others try to pass after getting tired of waiting for the fool to catch on.

This is abuse of the privilege, BUT, I know several volunteer ENT's and firefighters that may have hit their lights and siren to move a few people off the road. I've called the highway patrol before to inform them of unsafe drivers when deemed necessary.

Just make up some cardboard signs, and hold the appropriate one up as you pass someone like him....
1) Calling you an idiot would be an insult to all the stupid people.
2) I don’t know what makes you so dumb but it really works.
3) Anybody who told you to be yourself simply couldn’t have given you worse advice…
4) Your village just called. They’re missing an idiot.
5) Don’t let you mind wander – it’s far too small to be let out on its own.
6) Are you always this stupid or are you making a special effort today?
7) If you took an IQ test, the results would be negative.
8) Brains aren’t everything...In fact in your case they’re nothing.
9) For the love of God, do you at least remember what you were doing the day they were passing out common sense?
10) If brains were taxed, you’d get a refund check.
11) They just ran out of brains by the time you got there, so they gave you a nice wood carving instead.
My posts shouldn't be taken for factual data. They are purely fictional, for entertainment purposes and should not be constituted as actually related to scientific, technical, engineering, legal, spiritual or practical advice. Amen.

I think this is exactly correct. Such driving behavior can only be intentional. For some reason the person thinks he is actually making the road safer, when he is actually doing just the opposite, by forcing other people to drive the way he wishes. I have seen such driving myself on a couple of occasions, and it is extremely dangerous.

Thanks and I agree. I figured I would get flamed right away. I am glad I explained it well enough for the folks who took the time to read the post. It really did come down to an issue of safety. The second vehicle that nearly went head on with opposing traffic missed by a fraction of a second; it was so close that the line of trailing cars all braked to avoid secondary collisions.
The experience reinforced my personal practice of trying to not have anyone stuck behind me when towing.

Hummm, driving 45-50 on a two lane is not a crime. Especially in the states. It was a crime to drive 75 downhill on a 2 lane. So why did you have to pass at all if he was doing 75? And why are we complaining the the 5er almost caused head on collisions? Doing 75 and you "had" to drive 90? Driving that speed and passing obviously was more dangerous than driving 45-50. That 5er had as much right to the hiway and anyone else. He pays taxes and probably more than most that was trying to pass. Sounds like someone was inconvienced. I understand the rant, but nothing was done wrong. I pull over if I am holding up traffic, but I am not going to break my neck doing it. I have as much right to that asphalt as the people behind me. Get a life folks.
