A 'bunkhouse' in the true sense of the word, means a separate room with bunks. Only 5ers or TTs give you that (we love ours and will miss it when we move up to a class A soon).
Now, there are many Class A MHs that offer a pair of 'hallway' bunks, and several have mentioned those models. They started making them around 2007. There's also a few that offer a drop-down bunk over the front cab.
We're actually about to purchase a Class A with hallway bunks ourselves, the Forest River Georgetown 351DS. There's several to chose from like this, as already said.
I agree. The hallway bunks in the A Class are great. We recently purchased the Fleetwood Bounder Classic 34B. Very nice coach!
Discovery 40 G has a nice floor plan and the bunk house can be made into a separate room so you have access to the main bedroom and bathroom without disturbing the kids. The 42A model has an extra 1/2 bath and a bunk room that is in the very back. I've had a very good experience with my 2011 40G.
The ACE has an electric overhead bunk. One of the only Class A's that can be driven with the bunk down. Not to mention the ACE gives you a lot of bang for the buck. Likely one of the cheapest class A's you'll find. Comparable in price to a Class C.

Yeah, I've looked at the 40G model, that is a nice one.
I guess that floorplan does technically give you a true bunkhouse, but only way to do that is to make the bathroom into your 'hallway'. Not something I personally would be too crazy about, but to each their own.
Newmar used to make a really cool one, where you had 'split level' rooms at the back, the bottom floor was a bedroom, top was a bunkhouse. I don't believe they made very many of those, though. There also used to be a floorplan that had a small room up against the back bedroom that had two bunks. Those are really the only other class A floorplans I have ever seen, that give you a true bunkhouse.
Unfortunately, there really aren't many class As that offer 2 rooms. There are a few like the 40G where the hallway room can be closed off and you can walk through the bathroom (Gulf Stream 40UL does it too and I think there was another). The Discovery 42A gives you an actual 2nd bedroom at the back (recently someone was selling a Revolution 42T that was remodelled similarly and I've heard of people with Monaco Signatures (that have large closets at the back) fitted with a bunk room). Newmar had the loft model you mentioned (AllStar 3950/3951 and 4159 - from what I've read, total numbers was under 50 for the 3-4 years they made them). They also had a Ventana model that had an actual 2nd bedroom but it wasn't that big of a coach and the front living area was quite small. Georgetown also had a gasser with a 2nd bedroom but I think it was only available for one year and I've never actually seen it other than in the brochure.
It's a shame that there isn't more available. I'm a bit surprised that the rear loft hasn't picked up any more. Newmar did it for a few years and it probably sold as well as can be expected given the price (it was over $200k and it was scrapped when the rv market tanked a few years ago) and Thor still makes the Outlaw toy hauler with a loft above the garage. I'd like to see more like this one with a raised rear roof (ACs and vents moved forward to accomodate). I think this design really maximizes the available space and I think a 2 bedroom model like this would do well especially in a more affordable gasser (I think a lot of families like the Newmar loft but it was just too expensive for many).
I don't want to get a FW but I do really like a lot of the floorplans that are available for families.

...Fleetwood Discovery 42A has a bunkhouse "room". Newmar also has bunks in a room. In addition...a couple years back, I beleve Forest River had a room you could add bunks or an optional desk in.

Bingo, that is my situation as well. I really, really like having 2 separate rooms, one for the kids and another for the adults. Thats what we have now in our TT, and hate to give that up. We've come to the conclusion, though, that this is something we're going to have to give up to get the luxuries, conveniences, etc. that comes with a MH.
You're absolutely right, that there needs to be more Class A options in an affordable gasser setup, with 2 bedrooms. Thats what we really want, but it does not seem anybody makes such. Can't afford (nor have any desire for) a DP, so that rules out many options already mentioned. Sooo, looks like we'll 'settle' for the Georgetown 351DS, and its hallway bunks.

I am currently look for a MH with bunks also, as we have a TT with a seperate bunk room. I found the PERFECT MH but it is no longer made A Georgetown 379 (Three slides and a seperate bunk room past the main slide out)-not a hallway bunk!!, there are 2011 models, but they are VERY hard to find.
I agree with much with what was said above. One thing we noted when we were looking a few years ago at Bunk models, is that the size of the bunk beds (length in particular) varies quite a bit. One reason we bought the Hurricane is because of the 80 inch bunks. Our kids are a bit older and taller and also my oldest is autistic, so he will be with us a while, so larger bunks were needed. Just something to think about as the kids get older...
Question to the folks who have the Berkshire 390bh, what is the length of the bunks? It looks like a great layout and has some of the things we have always missed in our gasser.
Thanks!
