Anyone got one? What are you towing? Any significant weight? Are you happy with the performance of the engine?
I will need to replace my V-10 in a few years and just curious about the replacement Ford came up with.

Thanks in advance!

I would consider a diesel anything considering the size of the trailer you are dragging.

I just went through this exercise about whether to get a big gas rig or a diesel truck. If you look for threads started by me you will get some pretty specific realworld MPG towing/not towing with various types of trucks.

What I was able to figure out from these responses is that both gas and diesel are pretty close MPG wise when empty. The cost/mile with an offset +$0.40/gal for diesel, gas is favored by only a few cents/mile (under a nickle).

However, when you compare realworld towing MPG, gas takes a huge hit on MPG. Even though gas is so much cheaper than diesel, diesel's better towing MPG suggests a towing advantage of nearly a dime or more per mile.

The problem with diesels are the high costs. Even comparing used gas vs diesel tow vehicles diesels are roughly a third or more costly than a gas rig.

The diesels still have another advantage, however. That is while the average gas truck may be ending it days when it reaches 250K miles, that is just middle age for a diesel truck (diesels are generally regarded as 500K+ mile vehicles). A diesel truck with 50K - 80K miles probably sells in the $25K-$32K range. The Tacoma V6 with 120K miles on it, will sell for around $19K. Diesels having twice the lifespan make them potentially a much better deal.

Some gas trucks won't tow beyond about 11K pounds. Most are well below that figure. Most single diesels are able to tow north of 12K pounds to just over 13K pounds. A F350 dually version diesel will pull more than that.

The trailer I have could have been comfortably towed by a Tundra. My conundrum was that if in a few years I went with almost anything bigger or heavier the Tundra could not have hauled it. Further having the extra capacity of the diesel also meant better power margins too...

I am holding out for a 5.0+L Eco Boost. It may just be a dream now but I just got a feeling it is not that far down the road. In the meantime my 6.8L V-10 suits me just fine.

I tow 8000# when I double tow. I get 7.5 mpg up and down the Idaho and Montana mountains. I get right at 10 with the slide in camper. Haven't pulled the TT by itself yet.

The power is good. Coming form a CTD it is NO diesel!!! I can not stand to sit there and let her rap to 5 grand!!! So I lock it in 3RD and climb the passes at 40-45 mph at 3500-4000 rpms.

I did get 2 mpg better all around before I lifted it and installed 35" tires.

I talked to a 6.2 F-350 man that towed a Teton. He showed me the truck so I asked does it have enough power. Yes it does but since he had several ford diesels that caused him so much trouble power wasn't the issue. It was a nice truck and when he drove by our rv site it was quiet. Of course the ford diesel is quiet also. he was happy. good enough for me. Fuel mileage is lower as we all know that. The enginee was covered with plumbing so not much to see. I like the dually fenders.

I live in central BC and there are a lot of Diesel trucks. One big observation I have, don't own a diesel anything outside of warranty or it will cost you big bucks. Up here those that work their trucks, forestry, mining, whatever generally wear out the trucks before the engine dies, gas or diesel.

I guess I should have stated up front, I don't want a Diesel! Thanks for the info anyhow. I will only be towing a couple thousand miles a year. I have been and am very happy with my V-10. Just wondering if the 6.2 is going to be as good. So far it sounds promising.

By the way my camper is only 13,000# GVW my V-10 handles it very well, Thank you!

RATED POWER:
The V10 (2005 and newer) - 362hp @ 4750 RPM and 457tq @ 3250 RPM
The 6.2L (2011) - 385hp @ 5500 RPM and 405tq @ 4500 RPM

Hypertech dyno tested both and found that the 6.2L made 320hp @ 5500 RPM and 342tq @ 4350 RPM at the rear wheels. LINK

The V10 made 242hp @ 5100 RPM and 291tq at 3800 RPM at the rear wheels. LINK

Doesn't really make sense to me, but that's what their charts say.

We towed our 31' 11,400 lb GVWR Jayco Eagle all over the southeast with an '05 2500HD Ram with the little 345hp Hemi. We were very happy with it's performance. I wouldn't hesitate to do the same with the more powerful 6.2L Ford. I'm sure rpmaphobes would hate it but I have no problem listening to the hotrod sound of a V8 running in it's normal rpm range.
