I have sprayed the rod from the outside and this helps but the best method that works great is dunp a gallon of vegtable oil in the empty tank and let it sit. the go outside and quickly pull and push the rod so it get lubed as the oil passes by. We really don't have a problem because of the two methods we use.

Since everyone is in a jolly mood, I will share my story from last night. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.
The last time out, I had a hard time opening and closing the black dump valve. When dumping I flushed it "really good" knowing I would be taking it apart.
The plan last night was to take it apart, clean and lube it, and re-assemble it. I did have the presence of mind to put a bucket under the assembly. I tooks the 4 nuts off, removed the bolts and had to pry the assembly apart with a screwdriver. When I did that, I was expecting a little dirty water to trickle out into the bucket. I was not mentally prepared for the "slurry" that ran out into the bucket. I told my wife that as bad as i was expecting it to be.....it was 5 times that bad. My stomach still gets a little tight when I think about it. In hindsite, I should have raised the drivers side of the motorhome so all the nasties were running AWAY from the outlet. Lesson learned. Hopefully I will never have to do that again!!!!!
However, my PM did work and the valve functions like new aqain.

John,
Sorry it was such a dirty lesson. When preparing to work on the valves, raise the opposite side of the coach and dump, then raise the side with the valves before beginning work. You should not get a cup out of it then.
BTW, I have found that a quality silicone grease applied on the uninstalled valves keeps them easy to operate for a whole season.

I will certainly do it a little smarter the next time. The only bad mistake is the one you don't learn from. I didn't realize that held that much stuff when it was level.
Thanks!
Thanks!
