Is anyone using this service?

And, if so, how did you go about getting it going?

I have spent the better part of 2 hours talking to DISH themselves who in the end tell me I MUST go to a "retailer" to get this service "installed" on my coach.

Since i already have the KVH4 dish on my roof with all the wiring to my control panel already in place, this sounds like "proprietary" BS to me...From a bit of research it APPEARS all i need is a VIP211K mobile receiver and then a programming plan.

But calling DISH directly got me nowhere...

and online they keep directing me to www.dishformyrv.com

has anyone hooked up the DISH pay as you go service through this site, and if so, do they simply mail you the receiver which you hook up yourself(which im 1000% fine with) and then make a phone call to activate????

any/all help appreciated...

i couldnt find a direct tv pay as you go plan, and i only want satellite tv service for the college tailgating season! LOL

thanks in advance!

I use the Dish pay as you go plan after installing a Winegard Travler 1000 on motorhome myself. Ordered the VP 211K receiver from Camping World online but the store carries unit also. Installed the receiver myself and the phone number to activate is furnished by Camping World or you can contact Winegard and they can connect you to the right people. You will need the startup info from the receiver once you get it connected and energized the first time. Once you have that the rest is fairly straight forward. My system works great and the billing phone calls finally stopped when they figured out I was on the pay as you go plan.

Good Luck and Regards

With the Pay-as-you-go program you have to purchase the VIP 211K receiver. Where you purchase it does not make any difference to Dish, only to the two retailers Pace and Winegard. They will not even talk to you if you do not purchase the unit from them. Do not call the main Dish number you will get a no nothing who doesn't know the diference between an RV and a SUV. Try this number to get your receiver activated if you buy it on E-bay or some where else 800-970-7959. Lots of luck dealing with Dish, their people are not very well trained.

I had to buy the equipment and install myself. Then called dish at 800 333 3474 and had to educate them on the PAYG RV program. They finally found it and signed me up. Don't let them confse PAYG with "FLEX PLAN." To turn off, don't say "suspend" say "disconnect." If you say suspend, they want to charge you $5 per month when not using. Good program (IMO), but can be very frustrating because it's hard to find a Dish rep that is familiar with the program. You have to educate them. They pro-rate the monthly fee if you disconnect early and will keep credit on your account until you sign up again.

Can you suspend service in the month, say for 2 weeks, reactivate for 2 weeks and so on or do you pay for 30 days at a time regardless if you use it only 2 weeks w/in the period?

You prepay up front 30 days then after 30 days is you do not pay your bill it is shut off. Then when you want it back on you call them up and they turn it back on.

You must prepay for 30 days. Then if you only use it for 14 days and stop the service, you will have a 16 day credit in your account for the next time you restart it. You would then pay for the 14 days used to bring you back to 30 prepaid days.

I suggest that you continue your research. The pay as you go service is not prorated payment. Each month (mine is the 18 to the 17 of the next month) is a separate pay period and you must pay for the entire pay period whether you activate it for 28 days or 1 day. The only savings is in Pay periods (months) that you do not activate it at all.

Some have written here that they do get the pay as you go system in prorated payments. That is not my experience though.

Customer service has improved but Dishnetwork customer service only comes into play, after you have everything set up and working.

Here is my experience. And yes, customer service has gotten better.

I have the Pay-As-You-Go deal.

I called the number at Winegard/Dishnetwork three times. Each time I was required to leave a message. The first time I thought it would be like many (maybe most) other type services, "leave a message and you might never hear from them." I was surprised to get a call within 2 hours after each call. The rep took the time to explain the service and answer my questions.

When I made the decision to go with the service, I knew I needed to have the system install complete, prior to calling the Dish 4 My RV number, 877-435-0181, provided by the Winegard. Once the Dish and receiver were installed and connected to my TV, I called Dish 4 My RV. I was on hold all of 90 seconds (+/- 5. The sales/service rep helped me set up the account and spent time making sure I understood the service start, stop, how to call or use the web to pay and manage my account. He verified that my system was ready and took my Sim and Receiver numbers. Within 60 seconds my reveiver went from "...not authorized." to "...being authorized. Took about 20 minutes on the phone. After hanging up, it took 20=30 minutes for the satellite and receiver programming. Satellite was ready to use. Love it.

BTW, the sales rep said that Dish does not charge the $40 for DVR capability. He said all I have to do is plug in my HD to the ViP211K. He was wrong. HD for life is still $99 one time fee. I have only had the connection for a short while and have not tested the DVR. Will do so this or next weekend. I am starting with at least a 500GB HD to ensure I have plenty of space.

Seems that customer service has gotten more knowledgeable since I start the inquiries.

When asked to outline the specific steps I took I answered.

For the Pay As You Go service, you need to do this.

1. Install a Dish Network compatible satellite dish and the VIP211K receiver.
2. Go to DishForMyRV Programming to select your viewing plan. You don't select it on line. You need this when you go to step 3.
3. Once that is installed, you call Dish 4 My RV number, 877-435-0181. They will ask for a 4 digit pin. Tell them if you want HD for life, $99 one time setup fee. Have paper and pen ready. They will give you an account number and customer service numbers.
4. Credit card, there could be other methods of payment, like debit card.
5. Once authorized/activated/connected you can go online to DishNetwork.com and click "REGISTER" in the upper-right corner of the screen. With your 4 digit pin and account number, you can register and update your account info. You can also pay your bill online to continue or activate service. You can also call Customer Service.
6. About 30 minutes after you are authorized, you will have sat. TV to watch.

You get a monthly notice of bill. Pay and you keep receiving. Ignore and it will ignore you for the same amount of time.

Have had Dish now for a few months. We went to Custer, SD. Called the customer service number and changed my service (not billing) address to the CG we were staying in and got the local channels within minutes. The dish tracked and locked within minutes as well. We have the Winegard Dish SK-1000 installed but I have heard good things about the Carryout.

Minimum service you get and pay for is 1 month whether you use it for the entire monthly billing period or turn it on the last day of the billing period. Costs nothing to turn on or off. We save money in the months we do not use it. We will pay nothing during the winter months.

We are very happy.
