Reality is, along with being decent cars, many DO tow with their suebys, and do very fine thank you very much!

Since the state took my mothers license (thank you) I have been getting her 2006 B9 Tribeca ready to sell. During this time I have had the opportunity to drive it around. Nice car with plenty of features. Drives nice and rides well. The one thing I am not overly impressed with is the mileage. While it is not bad it is less than what I would have expected. The other thing that I was surprised by is it's blue book value. I don't expect to get that but it seems they do sell for much higher than I would have thought. All in all though it is a nice car.
I would have bought the Legacy if it still had a tow rating. Since it didn't, I found that the AWD added a little to the price and detracted a little from the MPG and I was better off getting a more standard midsized sedan, and that is what I did. If they weren't so expensive I'd have bought the Outback (the Forester is cheaper, but doesn't do it for me). They are great cars, but unless you really need the AWD I'd look at other midsized sedans a little more strongly. If you do, the Fusion is a nice car and is also available in AWD. Either the Fusion or the Legacy would be a good choice for AWD in a car.

I have no problem being persuaded to look at a reliable different model.

Have you driven the Fusion? It's very highly rated and very reliable. My parents recently had one as a rental for more than a week, and were very impressed. I believe the MPG ratings for an AWD model are very close to the Legacy. Both the Fusion and Legacy MSRP's start at less than 20K.

I went to http://www.suzukiauto.com/build_and_price/kizashi?r=left#/summary and the price for a car I never heard of is: $23.184.00 for AWD
not including tax, title...etc. My Legacy price out the door is around $23.411.31.

Had a look at the Kizashi and was very impressed. Really well equipped, almost everything is included in the base price and it has more soft touch interior surfaces than the Legacy. Critics say the drive is very German which was their intent when they designed it. The AWD can also be turned off and just FWD used to get a little better fuel economy but I don't think there is much difference between it and the Legacy. Not as much interior room as the Legacy either. It's a bit smaller car.
All in all, I liked the Suzuki a bit better than the Legacy but my question would be Suzuki's commitment to the North American market and the size of their dealer network, even though Suzuki builds a lot more cars than Subaru world wide. They are the world's 9th largest car builder by volume and the fourth largest in Japan behind Toyota, Honda and Nissan.

why dont you try going to the lot and getting a price, i can build a $70000 dodge truck online, i wouldnt expect to pay that at the dealer.
My dughters was the sport with leather and nav, list was $27k, we paid $23 with taxes.
Yes, buying the suzuki is bit of a gamble, currenlty she has 5k miles and zero complaints. The dealer used to be a saturn dealership...lol, they seem to be on top of things and even gave her 3 free oil changes. My only complaint was that at 7k it has to have the rear diff fluid changed, then it is good till 100k.
The car handles surprisingly well with the sport package and braking is incredible, i would say it is right inline with my nephews audi a4.
Believe me i tried to ge her into a fusion or malibu, the suzuki ended up cheaper and fit her better.
