Our 2005 Newmar Kountry Star on a W-22 chassis needed new tires. Tires looked fair ar 45,000 miles and 7 years of age. Investigated and wound up with Sumitomo tires. This site has been favorable to Sumitomo tires and dealers thought they were a very good choice, they have a good record on trucks. Two dealers said that the Michelin tires were an odd size (to keep their replacement business?) and were overpriced. As you will see the Sumitomo tires are a slightly different size, but load ratings and etc. similar.

First tire dealer;
1. Michelin 235/80R22.5 $547 each. Sumitomo Style 718 size 245/75R22.5 $412 each.

Second tire dealer: (Which is an old line Holyoke, MA dealer and I have purchsased there before after shopping around.)
1. Sumitomo Style 719 size 245/75R22.5 $330 each!
2. Installation took 2 hours and was very well done (Installer had worked there 35 years and helper worked hard and smart.)
3. I am used to on the axle balancing, but no one had the equipment to do it on trucks anymore. Price included "Equal" balancing beads and a special valve. Seems all truck tires are balanced this way and with excellent success. Balancing beads are thrown into the tire in a plastic bag which breaks.

Had them inflated to 100 psi and the 60 mile ride home was fine and equal to the previous tires. Load tables for my weight says the pressure could be 90 psi

Also purchased 6 extended valve stems from Borg Equipment and Supply (800-300-2674) so I no longer use the troublesome and dangerous add on valve stem extensions.

Will post if I have any problems with the Sumitomo tires. The savings of $1,300 was worth the investigation and the risk.

I'm having 6 new Michelins installed in the campground I'm at presently next week for $2660.00. Installed tax included. They can't bubble or speed balance but will install the balance beads included in the price. BTW: Exactly the same size your looking at. Earl Swab Tire out of Idaho Falls.

Paid $2602 this past March for Michelin's. Same size your looking at. I know prices on tires have gone up since then. I don't see anything wrong with the Sumitomos. I've read a lot of posts here of people that have purchased them.

I ran Sumitomo's on the rear of my Freightliner M2 and the wear was excellent. I also ran Toyo's on the steer axel, I do believe the Toyo's ran better never had to balance the Toyo's but the Sumitomo's had to be balanced. The tires on the Freighliner were 22.5's. Good Luck. Happy Trails....

I put 6 new Sumitomo tires on my 37' MH in May and love them. I paid $2470.00 out the door including digital balance, tax, etc. We'll see how long hey last.

I went with Sumi's last August. $290/tire plus $10 for Equal.
Bought them in Hopedale, Ma. Family run business for many years, service was great.
Happy with the tires.

The one thing to mention about the 235/80R22.5 is the width of the wheel that comes on the WH chassis. WH used the narrowest possible wheel for the tires. Putting an oversize tire on a narrower wheel can cause some ride and wear problems with the tires,.

I put the same size Sumitomo's on my Workhorse W24 chassis. Price was $300 per tire, installed and balanced. I've put about 2000 miles on them. I'm happy with the ride but I think I have to constantly make minor steering corrections. If it's the tires, I'm sorry I didn't put Michelin's on the front and Sumos on the rear.
