FYI: Just got a notice in the mail yesterday on my 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI.
Safety Recall K36
Rear Axle Fluid Drain-Back Flow Restrictor
The problem is... The rear axle pinion bearing on your truck (VIN: ---) may not receive adequate lubrication under certain driving conditions. This lack of lubrication condition could cause the pinion bearing to seize and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a crash without warning.
Chrysler will repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will install a pinion bearing fluid drain-back flow restrictor and a new axle cover with a revised fluid fill level access hole. The work will take about 1 1/2 hours to complete.
Lovely!

What is the matter with this? From your post you seem disappointed. Think of it as a ;positive. A problem has been identified, and instead of trying to pretend it doesn't exist, they are stepping up to the plate and repairing it free of charge. Sure, it is a litle pain to get it to the dealer for repair, but it is your choice, you can ignore the recall.

Far better to have a recall performed than have a catastrophic failure resulting in an accident and possible injury. Sure it's inconvenient to schedule s recall, but it's better than the alternative.

I wonder who built that axle for Ram trucks? I guess it could be a "corporate axle".
1.5 hours isn't too bad. I would get it in for the fix ASAP.

I'm surprised you're just getting this notice. Mine was performed by the dealer while it was on the lot a few weeks before I bought it in April. Get it scheduled soon - I understand that Chrysler was only letting the dealers have a certain number of the necessary parts every month. I love my Dodge - have had it three months and have already put 6,000 miles on it.

I had mine done last month. It took a little over an hour, and I was visiting with the mechanic the whole time (it's a wonder they didn't charge me more, as I was peppering him with questions about the truck).
Don't understand why it's a big deal? I got an oil change done while I was there, also.

It wasn't a big deal; just inconvenient. The closest dealer is a ways away. It actually took well over 2 hours since the garage was backed up the day DS took it in. Alls well that ends well.

Ahh. I never thought about distance (I'm pretty close to the dealer).

Yeah is a pain, but just get it done. I hesitated on my Cadillac for simple washer heater that I didn't use anyway, but in a couple months I had another one for my ignition cylinder, and then another flash for my ECM, so I got them all done at one time lucky for me. Like always though, they screw something up, I go to push my spray button for the windshield, and water is coming out from the bottom of the car, they forgot to snap the water line in all the way, so I did it for them.

1.5 hours isn't too bad. I would get it in for the fix ASAP. The company that supplies axles to both Dodge and GM is AAM, American Axle Manufacturing. They supply the same range of axle models to both truck manufacturers.
