Hi, Today I tried using a new Yamaha ef2000is genny for the first time. I Started the genny then plugged the shoreline (30amp) cord into the trailer. Immediately the genny red "overload" light turned on and none of the ac indicators were working in the tt (ie. microwave clock, wall receptacles). I then turned the fridge off and started the genny again, the micro clock came on for a few seconds before it shut-off and the genny overload light turned on again. At the time the batteries were showing 2/3. There was only one led light on in the trailer. I just read in another post that I should turn the main breaker off before plugging the genny into the TT, when I get back to the campsite I'll try this. Is there anything else I should try or do differently? Thanks for any input.
Ps. The TT is a 2010 Tango

Make sure your water heater is turned off too. More than likely the converter is trying to kick in and charge the battery, causing the overload. Have a set of jumper cables? Hook your TV up to your TT battery and then start the generator and plug in the TT cord.

Whenever I start My generators I make sure that nothing is turned on.
I also try My darndest to turn everything Off before shutting the Generator Off.
I have No idea why I do this other than having once been yelled at by someone for shutting off a Generator while the A/C was running!

Thanks for the replies. I thought a 2000w generator would be capable of charging my 2 6v batteries without going into overload protection. My understanding is that when the overload light comes on, the generator continues running but is not producing power. If this is true how will the generator recharge the batteries?

Are you plugging into the GFCI? Mine has a 30 amp plug that only reset by restarting the generator plus it has two 15 amp GFCI protected receptacles. Turn off everything in the trailer that is/could be run on electricity. that includes making sure the refer is on gas only, water heater electric element is off then start the generator. Once it is running, if there is a conserve setting turn it off, once it is at full RPM, plug in and you should be good to go.

Are you using any kind of adapter like for a 15amp duplex plug to the 30amp RV plug and plugging into one of 15a outlets ?

Hawk15, I have a Kipor 3000 and I have to start it without a load and run it for a few minutes. If I try to use it right away it won't work.
I let it warm up? then turn the a/c fan on for about 30 seconds then hit the a/c. This works good for me.

I own a Yamaha EF2000is also. Yes, it has electronic overload protection and when tripped the only way to reset it is to turn off the generator and then restart it.
Something in your trailer is puller more current than the Yamaha is able to provide. As everyone has said, turn off all the power in your trailer, run the generator, and as you turn breakers back on you should find out what is causing the high power draw.
You might want to test just your generator all by itself with a load to verify that the generator is fine. Use something that pulls a lot of power but within the capability of the generator (like a hair dryer or electric heater).

Your Yamaha EF2000is should be able to power the converter to charge the batteries. In my TT the 45amp converter was origionally on the general receptical circuit. I added a breaker so that the converter is on its own dedicated circuit breaker. I trip all breakers off except the main and the one with the converter. I have a 1000w generator that will charge the batteries just fine.
So much to experience, so little time.
