Just a heads-up on the Star Light 1000 Star Light 1000 . I’ve had one for about 3 years and it has worked well. Recently, I had to change the bulb (it burned out), and when I went to unscrew the lens cover to access the bulb, the screw posts disintegrated. The posts are what the lens screws go into in the fixture base. By disintegrated, I mean that the plastic they were made of has degraded to the point that each post just fell apart as I tried to unscrew the lens cover.
My 5th wheel has been parked for the last 2 years (health problems) and the fixture has been in shade the whole time. I keep my 5er hooked up to house power 24/7/365 to maintain the batteries and for occasional use. I can only surmise that the problem is due to heat created by the light coming on and degrading the plastic. Perhaps the plastic that the fixture is made of is not up to the task?
I emailed the company and they offered me free shipping on a new unit (the old one was out of warranty). No explanation or reason for the plastics’ failure.
Just a warning for those of you that have one installed or are thinking of installing one.

Seems to me that the only heads up here is that the company stands behind the product. No questions asked..

Free shipping is standing behind the product? He didn't say they replaced the light for free, just that they would SHIP it for free.
I am interested in this because I installed one of these lights about 2 years ago.

Hi All.
We have the Star Light 1000 on each side of our Motorhome, for a couple of years now. No problems what so ever. We did how ever put LED Lights in ours. Mostly becasue of the past issues with outside lights with regular RV Bulbs in them, and Melting the Lenses. Live and learn. For what they cost, going with LED Lights is the only way to go. Plus it helps to save Batterty Power to. Good Luck. Happy Travels. dan & Jill

Just a follow-up. I was NOT offered a new unit, just free shipping if I purchased a new one.
I have changed most of my lights to LED's and will be doing so with the new Starlight. As I said in the original post, I believe the problem may have been caused by the heat generated by the conventional bulb. That being said, the fixture still shouldn't degrade to that extent and should have been designed to take the heat.

Absolutely it is standing behind an "out of warranty" product. Most companies would direct you to a place you can order parts.

If it were me I think i'd call and plead the case again, maybe ask to see if there is a loop stock replacement since the electronics have changed since. Will they sell you a case only? Swapping the electronics isnt that difficult.
Their position might be that the light was left on for extended lengths and cooked the case as it would do to even the cheap ones (which we've all seen). I have very close to S/N 1 installed on the coach and it is as solid as the day it was installed, only in the last year has it had an LED in it.

Looking at their website, I see they now include an LED bulb in it, so apparently they found out that the incandescent bulb was causing problems
