We just returned from a whirlwind trip of Amish country - from Lancaster to Kalona and everything in between. While some of the "crew" stayed in the truck camper, the others (me & wifey) stayed in the finer establishments.

Opinions - Lancaster is over run with tourists, but for the wifey - it's her home. I just stay outta the way - camping out at the rail museum in Strausberg.

Shipshewanna, IN had a great flea market, but now it's all made in China. Sure there's some bargains, but not like 5 years ago. Campgrounds on the property are ok.

Nappanee, IN - also had good cg's and we used to stop over at the Inn, but no more - watta disaster. You ask for a couple of double rooms and they "upgrade" you to spa rooms. If I wanted a spa, I'd have asked for one. Price difference is $30 more - but aggravating as heck! Thresher dinners at farm, we always looked forward too - no more - wifey didn't know her people partook of wine and spirits! Seems these 3 properties were sold to non-Amish looking to make a quick buck. They lost our biz forever.

Kalona, IA - ah relaxing - like Nappannee used to be.
