Is there a long line behind you as you go through all this at the dump station, or do you do this at home?

HuckleberryHunter, how would this work for clog back flushing? With your method, I'd be afraid of dropping the hose or it tearing.

To fill up your black and gray tanks for the second flush, do you just run the water in the flush and sinks?? Do you "block" the toilet open to let the water run?

This must take some time. Do you fill both tanks to full, or just a little for that extra flush.

Just curious as I want to do this, but the time factors seem to stop me every time.

Filling the tanks up twice to flush them is a waste of time and water. Just dump the things and add a few gallons of water to the black tank and be down with it. If you have a flush system in the black tank it won't hurt to hook up the hose and let that run a couple of minutes if you feel you must but it's not really required. We've been in our travel trailer well over 500 nights now in the past 19 months and we don't have any problems with clogs or odors. You can also forget the tank additives that is also a waste of money since your tanks are holding tanks and not septic tanks. If you have any odors you've got a leak somewhere and trying to cover up the smell with deodorant is not the way to fix it.

Good luck to you.

Hey, that's slick. I'm not too worried about dropping the hose, but if it tore....well, that would certainly ruin my day. The only problem I see is that it looks to me like you have to have a threaded hose end to hook that thing up. I don't think I've ever used a dump station that had a rinse hose that would accommodate the connector. Most I've seen are hoses with the ends cut off or special trigger nozzles. I don't always get clogs when draining, but it does happen. Any other suggestions on how to clear them?

Thanks for the quick initial feedback. I was told by the previous owner of the trailer to first open the black valve and let completely drain, then while leaving black valve open, pull open the grey valve which should rush into the black tank to help rinse.Once grey finishes drainng then close both valves.

Does this procedure sound reasonable?

Thanks,
Bob

I do that, but don't drain all the gray with the black valve open.Open and drain black, open gray for maybe 20 seconds, close gray valve, after black empty, close black and open gray until empty, close gray, remove hose, install cap.

I put the hose in the sink drain and
watch my gauges and for the black I
put the hose in the toilet and fill
till I see the water takes a little
time but my camper has never smelled
thats the way I have always done it

General information about holding tank use and care:
NEVER empty a black tank unless it's nearly full. Without sufficient liquid to flush out solids leads to clogs and build ups that can ruin a camping trip.

WOW - I didn't know this. I have been opening the valve on both tanks as soon as I hook up.

Pays to read the forums! Thanks!
