We are traveling and are currently in Colorado Springs. My foot started bothering me yesterday and was really painful, got up this morning and had lots of selling and could not put my weight on it. DH took me to a walk in clinic and saw the Dr and he diagnosed me with Gout. Gave me something for pain and Indocin. Has anyone experienced Gout and tell me it will be better in a couple of days as we have another 6 wks or so ahead of us to see this beautiful country.

My husband has it and will have a problem several times a year. He takes Allopurinal. Eating rich foods is a major problem for him and that is the way he would love to eat.

Hi,

Eating things like bacon, steak, and protien rich foods can be a cause of gout. Avoiding these foods is a solution to gout. Also try drinking some alkaline water, it seems to reduce the acids in your system, and provides some relief to the foot pain.

I thought that I had gout once, went to a foot doctor, he pushed his whole fist through a tiny spot in my foot, asked "Does this hurt" as I was screaming in pain and tears came to my eyes! Yes. He said "You have a torn placier faclitis" Or something spelled like that. I found foot pain relief in Z-Coil shoes. THey are headquartered in Albuquerque, NM. IF you have a chance, look up their website, find a store near you, get a comfortable pair of shoes.

By the way, don't complain about the price. IT is better to just go in, get the shoes, make sure they fit right, and never ask the price. When you do look at the receipt, then think a doctor's visit and a pair of shoes don't add up to that much, well when a couple of X-rays are included, so stop thinking about the price, and get comfortable shoes, you will thank me in a couple of years when you have worn the shoes daily and they are still not worn out like the cheap $10 shoes marked up to $48 in the local department stores.

You can get replacement heal, and enclosed heal. I have the enclosed heal, so nobody asks me if I play basketball, I got kinda tired of that question. Encloed heal is a upgrade when you are buying the shoes, so you trade in the standard heal for the upgraded one, less money overall.

And if you happen to like soft drinks, stop those for at least 2 weeks. Yes even diet ones. The PH of soft drinks is around 3.0 PH, very acidic, and might cause the diabetes, and other problems that are found so much today.

If you can not get to alkaline water, go get a large bottle of antacid. About 3 hours after a meal, take 2, they will help give your body extra calcium, and that will help it get rid of the acids in your system. Also drink plenty of water.

For some people, shellfish and alcohol seem to induce episodes also. My BIL gets so bad he has to crawl because his feet are so tender. Watch what you eat and see if you can narrow down the "trigger". The medicine should help in a few days. Hope you are feeling better soon!

PS: I don't own any stock in the company, I am on my 3rd pair of Z-coil shoes, wear them daily, and bought the first pair in 2003 while visiting the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

Fred thank you so much for the information. I have looked at the web site you sent me. Are these shoes anything like the $100 sketchers. I have them and find it difficult to walk in because I have neuropathy in my feet as well and got over balanced very easy. I certainly will check them out, how many hundred dollars are we talking about. Thank you again I would not worry about the price if they help me. I am 66 and this is my first encounter with gout. He did not xray me so hope he knows. I do have a lot of redness and swelling which is very painful.
Thanks again for your help and all the replies

Little Jimmy, if you do have gout, a pricey pair of shoes is not going to help. I have gout and am working with my doctor to lower the level of uric acid in my body. In my experience, an attack can last several days to 2 weeks. Take your precriptions and try to elevate your foot whenever possible. Everybody has an opinion about what causes gout. Look up purines on Google. In lots of different foods.
It takes a long time for uric acid to build up in your body and will take time to lower your level. Learn to control the flareup and work to reduce your uric acid level.

I have gout and was on Alapurinal for a number of years. It didn't help all that much, still had flair ups and my one foot was still tender to walk on barefooted. Did some Googling and found a homeopathic remedy. Take a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda every day. If you have a flair up, increase the dosage to 1/4 teaspoon twice a day. Stay away from beer, wine is OK.

Been doing this for about a year and my foot is no longer tender and only had one mild flair up caused by over indulging in beer on long weekend. I also stopped taking the Alapurinal. My Dr is really impressed and has been tracking my results and is recommending the same treatment to other patients. I did tell her I'm swearing off beer and going to become a wino though.

I have Gout quite often. As once believed, it is not rich food or rich mans diet that causes Gout. Different things for different people.
Allopurinal is what I take and in severe cases I take Colchicine along with Allopurinal. I was in the hospital for surgery and came down with Gout. Both of theses drugs were given. Gout is high uric acid. You really need to keep an eye on this cause Gout will settle in other parts of the body.
Good Luck
