After doing a lot of research on this forum and another one, we decided to try RVing and after a mistake when buying a 34' boat and taking a large hit on it when we sold it, we decided to set a budget on a first time RV. We did buy a RV with that budget and planning our first trip this weekend.
This past weekend, we went to a local RV show and saw LOTS of nice rigs and now I think my wife is disappointed that we didn't get something a little newer and larger. The RV we now have is a 1996 Fleetwood storm, 25', no slide. We didn't think about getting one with slide outs and what a HUGH difference it makes! If we sell it now, we will take a little loss since we put new tires on it and had it detailed out. ($1545.00) Without those two expenditures, we might have gotten our money back except for tax and license.
If anyone on this forum is thinking about buying their first MH, look at something a little bigger than you were thinking and spend the money and get something with slides!
OK, now I feel better since I have that off my chest. PS: Have been looking at other RVs for sale on the internet.

Barry,
Welcome to the club...My first was a class A about 10 years old and no slides. I did keep it for a year to learn and try to figure out what would really work for us. Now after a few other rv's I am in a 32ft class C with 2 slides. LOVE IT> Let your wife make it pretty with new bedding, towels etc in a neutral color. That generally worked for me till I was ready to get the one that I wanted.
Enjoy

First of all, welcome. Please tell your wife that MANY of us started in something a bit older and "not-the-exact-rig-we-wanted." If you have something that is comfortable, clean and well maintained, get out and enjoy it. See what you like and what you don't. If it is just the two of you, you will be fine without a slide. Yes, they are nice but RVs were around for 70+years without the first slideout. Keep what you have, take care of it. Use it a few years and then IF you sell it and come out okay, then look around for something a bit nicer with a slide. Tell your wife that many folks spent many months being snowbirds in rigs shorter and without slides. When you are at the campgrounds and see folks in a tent in the rain, your RV will seem like a palace to you. Good Luck.

Don't beat yourself up. You established a budget and stuck to it, I think you should be commended. Now, are there bigger and badder rv's out there, sure. Anyone one of us can have rv envy, unless you have a Prevost!!! Enjoy what you have, it has an engine and wheels to take you camping anywhere you want to go.

If I were you, I would quit looking at those other rigs and go out and enjoy the one you have. You apparently did some shopping when you got it and have it fixed up and ready to go. Go and have a great time. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but that doesn't mean you can't go have fun now. It will be particularly enjoyable because you spent according to your budget and you can enjoy yourself without worrying about being so far in debt.
Have a great time. There is plenty of time to look at other coaches. Take time to enjoy what you have. Heck, you may decide you absolutely HATE RVing (not likely), but it is a possibility. So go and enjoy!
Another point is that with a 25' rig, you will be able to access the smaller sites at state and national campgrounds that the big rigs can't get into.

Thanks for the replies. I just feel bad for her but will make it a nice trip for her this week-end.

That is one good way of looking at it. Certainly better than how I camped out when I was in Vietnam.

Enjoy what you have for the time being and if you decide you want to have something different in the future you will be better qualified to make the right decision with some RVing under your belt.

I agree. You did the right thing and your wife should be glad that you're not going deeply into debt just to get something bigger or fancier. Keep it for at least a year. By then you'll know what you want.

What everyone says, make sense. Better to have this one than having a tent. It is just my wife and two little Yorkies.

Part of camping is going with what you have. The journey and destination are the fun of it. Give it at least a year before you go shopping again and get out there and have some fun. Take the time and find what features you really like or you will be trading every six months. There will always be a bigger, nicer, better, cheeper RV compared to the one you have.... no matter how far you upgrade.
