I'll be going there in October. This will be my first trip to the Hot Springs area in about 35 years and the plan is to spend about a week there. My first thought is to get a non-resident 7 day fishing license and enjoy the lake, but then I'm thinking DW might enjoy driving around and seeing the area. Are there any "Do Not Miss" attractions around the Hot Springs are. About all I remember about it is that millions of brilliant yankees swoop down there annually to buy water from the ignorant southerners. LOL

You should plan on spending time at the Hot Springs National Park Visitors Center in the restored Fordyce Bath House. The best part is it is free.

When you arrive in town please take a moment and stop by the Hot Springs Visitor Information Center, located at 629 Central Avenue.
Fordyce Bathhouse operated by National Park Service. Drive up to the top of the mountain and go up in the tower. Oaklawn Track now has casino if you're open to that type of entertainment. Small but interesting Gangster Museum downtown. Ride on duck boats on Lake Hamilton. Garvan Woodland Gardens. Lake Catherine State Park has been redone and is beautiful! Do you have reservations? They book up on the weekends. Enjoy!

I'm going to post here to kick this one up to the top since we're heading there in a couple of weeks. So excited to get a camp spot right on the lake! We've never been to Lake Catherine SP and have heard wonderful things about it.

Looking for interesting things to do in the area... so far we have the following written down:

*Gangster Museum
*Crater of Diamonds
*Mount Magazine
*Fordyce Bathhouse

Any good restaurants, shops, antiquing, etc that we shouldn't miss? No kids, so we don't have to do 'family friendly' things.

Thanks!

IMO, the Hot Springs national Park isn't much as National Parks go. The park actually consists of a very small portion of downtown Hot Springs. The big draw here has always been the mineral baths which draw people from all over the world. The main drag has it's share of "tourist related" attractions. The State Parks are the real well kept scret of Arkansas. They are pristine and every one is as nice as the others. Hot Springs is a good base camp to explore from. If you have several days, pick a couple of State Parks per day and turn those into side trips. The views are spectacular. Fall is even better with the color change. Since last October, we have been to Lake Catherine three times, just spent Easter there and have another reservation for October as well as one for Lake Dardanelle in July. You can't go wrong with any State Park in Arkansas.

Bob Landry, I should have prefaced this by saying we WILL be staying at Lake Catherine SP. We got a lake view site and we're just thrilled. Just wondering what to do while we're there for the week.

And I meant to say that Lake Catherine is a good base camp to explore from. That's how we discovered many of the other State Parks.
