We stayed in Pocahontas State Park (VA), just south of Richmond, a few years ago. Clean, nice sites, and as I recall, not far off of I-95 (or the local belt-interstate).

I see that you are coming from the north. We've stayed at Pocahontas SP. Great place, but just like all SP in Va, only water/electric. I think its only $35/night too. You could also check with the Fredericksburg KOA. They usually have spots open and are ~20 minutes north of I-295. We've been doing that for the Richmond race twice a year for a couple of years now. I would stay away from Hidden Acres.

Let me just say, the NASCAR race comes to Richmond next weekend. So if you are planning that trip, you definitly want to have reservations.

I have stopped at the yogi bear campground in Emporia,VA which is about 40-50 miles south of Richmond. It is close to 95 and they have few pull through sites which make it good for a overnight stay.

Lightfoot Va. has a KOA that is decent. It is located south of Richmond near the Williamsburg Pottery factory.

Depending on your timeframe you may have a problem finding somthing available due to the NASCAR Race... Pocahontas is few miles off 95.. taking 288.
Lightfoot..is way off, 45 mins East on 64.
There is a campground at Kings Dominion at 30 and 95, just north. There is also Americamps just North of 295...

Actually we'll be stopping over night mid-week at the Fredericksburg KOA about 40 miles north of Richmond. It's where we always stop enroute to Myrtle Beach.
You can forget about the weekend though with the Richmond NASCAR race coming up.

There is a KOA on I-95 at the Lewistown exit. It used to be a Americamps campground.
Of course I've never stayed there, but I usually run up there to fill my propane tank.
I don't know the exit number, but it's the exit between Ashland and Atlee/Elmont.
This campground is about 10-12 miles north of Richmond.
