+1 It is the chemicals that will kill your septic tank.

+2 It is a holding tank in your RV. No chemicals should be needed. I always dump into my home septic tank also. I put some powered dish washer soap in the black tank with some water to keep the sensors clean after dumping and rinsing.

We now live in a more rural area (30 years in LA) and this is our first septic system. I have talked to a lot of people: plumbers, painters, contractors and they all say the same thing about septic systems. Once the tank is full and doing its thing they are almost impossible to kill. Your chance of having a problem are pretty much equal whether you baby the system or abuse it. Remember that a small septic tank is 750 gallons, this is what we installed for the new shop/garage, and most newer home systems have a minimum of 1000 gallon tanks. 30 to 75 gallons usually will have a negligible affect.

Sigh!

I have two systems; one for my sister's mobile home, friends who keep their toys here, and my occasional discharge.

The other is for my house, and the occasional visitor.

Neither has ever been overloaded, even with multiple dumps by friends over long stays.

I think that regular use and anerobic chemicals are the answer.

We also have no problem at all with the little bitty bottles of chemicals with "supposedly nasty" chemicals.

Arctic dodge, not true, the septic tank needs enzymes to work, my best buddy has a dead septic tank that we can't seem to bring back. Stinks bad all the time, he had a water treatment unit on his potable water supply, used salt to treat the iron in the water. Over time, the salt has killed the enzymes in his septic tank, and after a lot of flushing, hopefully it'll come back to life. It won't hurt a normally operating septic system to dump your holding tank into, providing one doesn't use formaldehyde products in your r.v.

Hi Hot Rod Guy,

Get a can of yeast. Dump it in the waste tank--with some sugar. That will "jump" start the septic tank.

I think I am going to get one of those FLOJET RV PORTABLE WASTE WATER PUMP KIT 18555-000.($235 at AMAZON.COM)

I usually dump at the camp site when I use the big trailer (which is not very often). This Flojet water pump is 12VDC and you can use a 5/8-inch water hose with it and run thru the bath room window and go down the pot with it. Kit has the trailer waste adapter built on the end of the pump.

There was a nice post on here recently where the guys had a bunch of pictures and all on how he used his. He connected a 12VDC quick disconnect plug at the waste outlet on his trailer. ALot cheaper than adapting the house tank I would think. The Flojet also grinds the waste down to small particle size. The article says it will drain a 30-gallon tank in 3-minutes with the push of a button.

My Posts are IMHO based on my experiences - PM me

The parts needed to add a dump station to our septic system cost just under $20. If you already have an outside cleanout within reach of your RV dump hoses, you're all set at no extra charge.

I pump into the septic tank as soon as I arrive home. That way I feel I am displacing only water, as the septic has been working while I've been gone. Never had a problem and it's only 30/40 gals. Salt from a water softner klled my neighbors tank and it cost him $7000 to rebuild the mound. I only use Rid X in my camper as I think of it as a mini septic tank and when or where I dump , it's good for the system.

I got one a couple weeks ago from an authorized reseller off ebay for $225. including shipping. Flojet on Ebay

HomeDepot has a good hose to use. 3/4" 50-foot, with heavy duty connectors:Element contractor farm hose In addition to heavy duty connectors, near indestructible hose and good price, it is ALSO the color brown, lol.

For water connection, I bought a copper Y with valves, and I leave it connected to my RV town water connector:Connector/valves

At the end of the hose I also use a valve: Shut-off coupling

For the water in, I use a short garden hose.

You will need to have a CLEAR adapter to be sure it's fully flushed

I haven't yet plumbed it into my house, but I am planning to add a Y to the 2" ABS in the basement, and have it lead outside with a cap on it. I will talk to a plumber to ensure it's done right though.
