I am looking at something like this, I want to go fishing without going swimming, especially some of those higher elevation Sierra lakes.
There are models up to 13' long and you sit much higher than a "float tube".

I could put this in our SUV and not have to use the T V and T H.

We love our Hobies. We have a half dozen of them now. They have the mirage peddle drive which if you like to fish frees your hands and doesn't seem to scare off the fish as much as a motor. Hobie does have an electric motor for their yaks but it is expensive.

HOBIE

Here is one of ours at play;

The one in these photos is the smaller boat called the "Sport." I prefer the Hobie Outback. It's so stable I can stand up in it or sit and hang my legs over the side of it without it even coming close to turning over. Hobie also makes one designed for fishing. But even my Outbacks have four rod holders in them.

You may notice in the last photo the dolphin swimming along side the boat. They seem to love them for some reason. I've read that fish are really attracted to the bright yellow boats. But the fishing yak seems to be in camo green. I guess it's for hunting as well.

These are cool. Keep the pics coming. How about some pics with kayaks stowed for transport?

Did he have some sort of electric motor built in? The last picture seems to suggest that. Seems to be moving without the paddle unless he just put it down.
Hobie has the patent for the foot peddle drive. He hit the peddles about 20times and was in better fishing territory than those fishing from shore. Something to be said for that.

I don't know that I have any photos of the yaks in the garage. My garage is 12' long and the longest boat I have is 12 feet. The Hobies are made in such a way that you can simply stack them on top of one another. They don't really take up much room in the garage except when we are traveling I make two stacks to keep them from falling over. The Hobies are expensive compared to other yaks but if you use them often like we do they are worth it. I also carry a lot of expensive camera gear in mine so stability is important. The Hobie Outback SUV is very stable. We spend most of our time out in the Gulf of Mexico with ours so we prefer the sit on top yaks.

You can gain a lot of info on the Hobie by reading the HOBIE FORUM .

We have had the best possible service and support from Hobie dealers in several states. Hobies are most often sold in specialty stores and not the big box shops. The dealers are well trained in set up, maintenance, and repair work. Most dealers also use the products so they have an appreciation of them.

The Hobie mirage drive propels the boat fast with little effort. You can paddle, peddle, or even SAIL the Hobies. They are way cool. You can expect to spend almost $2,000.00 on a fully equipped Hobie with mirage drive, a lot more if you get the electric motor.

So how stable are these Yaks ??

I have looked at a few, just wondered how easy they would be to tip over. I am sure some of my reservations about them stem from older styles and those you see doing the whitewater rafting thing and getting soaked to the bone.
My brother is a BIGTIME fisherman and went from a float tube to a pontoon and will never go back. He also has a Bass boat but likes the idea of tossing the pontoon into a car and going fishing without all the baggage.
Keep up the posts/pics, I am still very interested.
