We chose Texas. It has the ocean, mountains, desert, forest and prairies, hot or cool, humid or dry. I couldn't find a state with more varied landscape than that.

I've lived in both states and I would choose AZ for snowbirding since even the most southern parts of NM can get snow, where as in AZ, the entire southern half of the state very rarely gets any snow.

We like Texas best, NM is too cold because of its higher elevations.

Have been/stayed/lived/RV'd in NM, AZ, TX & FL in the winter. You are asking to compare apples & oranges in most cases. If purely weather, IMHO, parts of AZ & FL are the best without doubt. Everything else is not comparable, purely up to taste & what you wish to do in the winter. Bottom-line it is personal taste, try them all !

NM is fine if you can handle snow. Flagstaff Az has ski hills. Phoenix / Tucson get frost after mid December but I have only seen snow on Picacho Peak. Last year we had overnight frost right into February.

LOL I suspect the distance to the RGV area is about 400 miles closer than Az for you. But in all candor, you cant go wrong with either one. NM on the other hand, I would try to not light there during the winter.

We go south every winter for the WARMTH. The warmest place in the USA is Yuma AZ.
