I have been checking into campgrounds for a 3 month stay this winter. I was looking a campground near Wauchula, Fl. which had been mentioned to me by a family member. The name of the campground is THE OASIS AT ZOLFO SPRINGS. Has anyone stayed at this campground and if so would you stay again. If anyone can give me information on this campground, I would appreciate it. I perfer not to rely on what I see in pictures. Thanks to anyone that can help me with this.

It's a small park. I personally thought it was rough and the spots are small. I am acquainted with a few that stay there and they like the park.

Not a real fair assessment. But I was at the Oasis in Zolpho Springs shortly after hurricane Charlie went thru Florida in 04. I was called on to assist our existing customers in the Punta Gorda area to get their businesses back up and running. It was a mess. The Holiday Inn in Punta Gorda was gone. Insurance adjusters and FEMA workers were crawling over one another trying to find lodging. In spite of their own damages, the Oasis was the closest functioning campground I could get into.

It's a relatively small park and at the time had a combination of mobile homes, park models, and RVs. I recall quite a few full time residents and they were friendly. Large trees came down and some of the permanent units didn't make it through the storm. Many of the sites were close together, but had plenty of length. The ground was saturated and I was lucky to get a site with concrete. The skeeters were horrendous, probably due to the rain from the storm. You couldn't sit outside after dusk.

Looking at their current website pics, it appears they have made some changes for the better. But again, I was there on the edge of a disaster. I spent about a week there at the Passport America price without restrictions before the Sheriff's ofc forced us to evacuate due to the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Francis. I rode that one out in a N. Fort Myers RV park.

What impressed me most about the Oasis was the owners. Their concern and attentiveness to the residents and campers under challenging circumstances went above and beyond. If I was looking for an inexpensive 55+ park with decent weather for the snowbird season, I'd return and give it a shot. Sorry I can't offer more current info. But, that was my experience and perhaps it will help in conjunction with information gleaned from family.

there's not much to do in or near Zolfo Springs...suggest a park closer to a major city.

I am also looking at a campground called Little Charlies Creek which is somewhere close to the area. I did find a couple of reviews on that one but if anyone has any info that might help, please send it. I would like to find a decent campground before its too late to get one. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me.

I happen to live in Wauchula, Fl. I have never stayed in either of the two questioned campgrounds but I have passed by them numerous times. Little Charlie Creek is just north of town in a rural setting and appears from the road to be well kept and I know in the winter there are very few empty places so it cannot be too bad. The Oasis is in downtown Zolfo Springs and is an older park with what appears to be tighter camping spots but it has been in business a long time and is another one that fills up in the winter time. Our local paper during the season reports on the activities at the local parks and there always seems to be something going on at all of them.

This area is becoming very popular for winter visitors enjoying our weather without the expense of the coastal areas. In Florida closer to the coast always means more money. Now we don't have the tourist activites of Orlando (the mouse) but we have moderate weather little traffic, a low crime rate, all the shopping you will ordinarily need and only an hour away from bigger metro areas if you need more shopping/entertainment and some of the best beaches in the state are only an hour away. Just off the top of my head I can think of 9 rvpark/campgrounds in a ten mile radius of Zolfo.
No I don't work for the chamber of commerce just live here, enjoy the area and know we get plenty of winter visitors so we can't be all bad.

We volunteer at a state park in Bowling Green (6 miles north of Wauchula)each winter. Been to yard sales at Charlie Creek and it seems to be a well kept park and clean. As someone else said there is not a lot to do in the area but plenty of places to go for daytrips. We have been going there for 7 years and look forward to going back each year.

I winter on the south side of Sarasota and pass by the Oasis twice a year on my way to Sebring. You do not say just what you are expecting from a winter campground but central Florida is very rural and very laid back. It is at least an hour (or more) to any beach. I agree that the closer you get to either coast the prices rise. In my experience the reason people pick the parks they do in Florida for the winter is mostly based on price. Yes, from Zolfo Springs you can go to Tampa, Orlando, etc. but after a while spending all of your time going to and from can get old. Oh, and the price of fuel has to be factored in. I pay $30 a day for a park that is shady, quiet, loaded with amenities, ten minutes from the beach with every kind of shopping in all directions and the same for entertainment and I have to refuel my car once a month.
