I use the TST system, and firmly believe that any TPMS is better than no system at all. You have more of a chance catching a problem before it happens with a system. There is nothing wrong with the Doran system, but if you shop price you may find the TST a bit less expensive.
We like our TST TPMS. This morning we had an alarm due to an inside right rear reading 6 PSI less than the rest so we have topped off all of them and will watch the monitor to learn the cause.
Once it saved us big time when we picked up a nail in the old set of tires in that same position.

Mile High wrote: I'm not clear how loosing a brake shoe contributed to tire pressure increase and temperature rise in the tire? Are you saying it radiated through the hub, or was the tire dragging?
One lining segment had detached from a shoe and was wedged/dragging on the drum causing excessive heat.

Where did you get the Dill TPMS?
I got mine from tirerack.com. I like the Dill system because the sensors are inside the tire/wheel and not exposed to vandalism/weather, etc.

Kennedycamper wrote: TST system does temperature as well as pressure too.
My tires pressure is 80 PSI. Today the temperature was 60 degrees and the pressure was down to around 70 PSI on all 4 tires which is where I had the alarm set. I was somewhat surprise as this amount of drop due to temperature alone. After a few miles and the day warmed up the tires were back to where they should be.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

Don't forget that your tire sidewalls say "80 psi cold max". You should take cooler temps into account and not rely on your tires to warm up. Better to have aired up to 80 at 60 degrees, IMO.

I just recently bought a TPMS and do not have it hooked up yet. Have heard only positive comments about them.

TST saved us going through downtown LA. Was able to get off the freeway and into a parking lot before tire delaminated or harmed the other one on that side.
Best to air up your tires according to the weight they carry. I used to inflate to 80psi but after getting the TST, it was kind of scary watching pressure get over 100psi on hot days. Might be why so many people have problems with trailer tires. Inflating to 80psi, coupled with cruising at 70-75mph on 100 degree days and you've got a China (or American for that matter..bomb). I now inflate to 65psi and don't drive over 60mph. Today the tire pressure settled at 75psi after a half hour on the road. (See link below):

Goodyear inflation chart I personally would never run that 12000lb dry Montana on tires inflated to 65 psi. You might actually be causing the high delta in temperature and pressure.
There is something fishy about that load chart as well - it does not include the LRE marathon at the higher 80 psi pressure - only the LRD.
