Well, we are getting ready to head out this weekend and once again we have "issues" with the slides. Last year it was the slide opposite the dinette and this time it is the dinette slide.

The motor operates just fine, both forward and reverse. It just doesn't engage the mechanism to move the slide. If I can get it in manually I will just leave it in and do the trip that way.

I will never, ever own another RV that doesn't have a manual slide retract mechanism.

No manual retract? Both slides on my Jayco have a manual retract/crank. I thought they all have a way to manually extend or retract. I hope to never use them but they are there.

Sorry to hear of your problem. Good luck.

If you dont have a owners manual here is a link you can access on from. 2011 is not listed but 2010 is. I believe on page 65 or 68 it tells you how to do it manually. Good luck.

Your Jayco HAS an Electric Lippert Slideout System. Call Jayco right now at 1-800-RVJAYCO with your VIN Number and Model and they will verify this.

From the Jayco Owners Manual and Lippert Website...

"The Lippert Electric slide comes with a manual over ride system. Locate the crank
extension with pin outside of the chassis main rail as, Fig. 2, page 7, shows
underneath the unit on the end of the motor (If your crank extension is under the
inside of the frame, please refer to page 8). This is where the crank handle
(standard fifth wheel landing gear crank handle or 3/4” socket and ratchet fits on to
allow the manual extension/retraction of the room, Fig. 4-5, page 8. Simply take
the crank handle (through-frame models) or wrench, ratchet or drill with a nut driver
(in-frame models) and rotate it clockwise to retract and counterclockwise to
extend slide-out. It is important to note that you DO NOT need to attempt to
disengage the motor as the actuator is “manual ready” Just hook up and crank.
Use EXTREME CAUTION when extending and/or retracting room using the
manual override feature. It is possible to operate the slideout beyond the
maximum extension and/or retraction and damage the slide components, slide
room structure or trim components."

Lippert Slideout Owners Manual... also has repair and adjustment info to get it working like new!

The system used on the Jayco Eagles slideouts is idiotic. Basically, there is a single electric motor driving shafts connected to either end of the slide. The motor acts as the lock once the slide is in position, so in order to move it manually, the following must be done;

-Remove underbelly
-Connect a 9 volt power supply to the motor (so that it will unlock)
-Move slide in manually using a wrench
-Reinstall underbelly

Very convenient..........NOT!!

It sounds like the the shear pin may have broke, better known as a keyway.
We had this happen to the bedroom slide on our MH.

The motor would run foward and reverse but the slide wouldn't move. It was a
very easy fix once I figured out what it was.

Leave it in for the trip? Quit your underbelly aching and get out there and start cranking.

On this system, as long as there is no power to the motor, you cannot turn the shaft. In order to "manually retract" the slide, you have to apply power to the motor in order for it to unlock the brake. You can either do this by activating the slide switch inside the coach (if the motor isn't burned out), or by using alligator clips and a 9V battery. Once you get the motor brake unlocked, you can turn the shaft with a pair of vice grips.

Like I said, I understand how the system works. This is the third slide out motor/transmission that has gone out on this unit in a little over a year. Jayco knows they have a problem with these motors, because the dealer says they are replacing a lot of them.

My only point was that it isn't very user-friendly to do manually. If you are at a campground and the motor itself freezes up, you are screwed unless you have a 9V battery and alligator clips. That simply isn't a very good design from an engineering standpoint.

The slide is going in and out manually, so we are still headed out on Sunday. The dealer ordered the new motor, which will be here next week. Luckily, all of this is still covered under the Jayco 2 year warranty!

The LR slide failed (again) yesterday. This is now the third failure of the same component in a year. There is obviously a design flaw here!

Well, we heard back from Jayco. It seems that there IS a design problem with these motors. The ones being shipped to replace our broken ones have beefed up gears inside. The dealer and Jayco have been very responsive and have shown me that they really do back up what they sell.
