Heck, I feel like that all the time after eating. It has been mentioned to me more than I can count, that I should consume 1 beano pill before I eat. What fun would that be.
Full timing it since July 2012 My pics

mike4947 wrote: Lettuce and other salad fixings are quite common in causing distress that the OP posted about. We found that the VAST majority of resturants use sulfites on their salad fixings to keep them fresh/crisp and to prevent browning.
With my second DW we went crazy trying different salad dressings as we thought maybe there was something in them causing it. She dearly loved to eat salads when we went out and also didn't have problems at home. Found out about sulfites and she switched to other foods when we went out and saved her salad cravings for home....no more problem.
I'm the OP. Sulfites might be the cause because I had a reaction to sulfur many years ago. I'm going to quit eating lettuce out, do some trial & error things & see if I can get it under control. Rarely eat fried foods but I can see where that could be a problem for some people & I don't take digestive aids. All suggestions were good & I thank you for the help.

Never heard that about lettuce. Are the kinds of foods you're eating the same or different from what you eat "at home", and are they prepared the same? What I'm wondering about is seasonings, particularly spices and seeds. Restaurants use them liberally while many people use very little of these things at home. Diverticulosis runs in my family. I have it mildly and sometimes spices cause me the same problems you're describing. My dad can't even have anything spiced/seasoned anymore, let alone seeds and nuts.
Apparently about half of all people over 60 have it, which was much higher than I thought. Anyway, this is an interesting link that may or may not be helpful: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/diverticulosis/

Could also be a gluten, wheat, or yeast intolerance. Give up all bread products for a while and see how you do.

Please keep in mind, a Gluten intolerent person doesn't just give up bread products. Gluten is in a lot of foods. In some foods, gluten is used as a filler. So you must be very careful, and read the labels. Trust me, my wife, daughter and grandson are all gluten intolerent. And when they eat something that contains gluten, they are sick (anywhere from a couple of ours to a couple of days).

hokeypokey wrote: We did some shopping today then ate lunch out. No matter what I order, usually I suffer with bloating, burping & gastric misery for several hours after I eat out. Home cooked food doesn't bother me. Our friend is in chemo therapy - and his Dr. told him to avoid lettuce when eating out, but OK to eat it at home. Preservatives are the culprit so I'm wondering if that's what's bugging me. I quit the soda when eating out but switching to water makes no difference. Anyone else dealing with this ?
7 years ago I had those same symptoms.
A Dr.correctly diagnosed my problem as Celiac Disease.
(Auto-Immune Disease where the body doesn't process Gluten very well)
I changed my diet to No Wheat, No Rye, No Barley, and all symptoms disappeared.
(About 10% of Scotch-Irish people may have Celiac Disease)
It strikes kids, then later in life adults.
In my case, I was 57 when my symptoms emerged.
Cheat on the diet, and gastric distress is the price you pay...
I don't cheat...

I believe it may be the lettuce. Was having the same problems when i ate out. Through trial and error, I discovered it was the lettuce. If I avoid lettuce out, don't have any problems. If you don't have your gall bladder, they also tell you to avoid lettuce. Some people still have their gall bladder, but it no longer works and it is my understanding that it is too hard to digest, so it could be the gall bladder or the sulfites. Go without the lettuce for awhile and see how you do. Good luck.

Definately NOT "too much information". When it comes to food intolarence any new information is welcome. Had a bad restaurant experience just last week and still can't figure out what caused my upset. The left over entree didn't bother so it must have been a side dish.
