To me, "roughing it" is camping in the woods without any of the creature-comforts that I love when I'm RV-ing. I'm kind of pondering "roughing it" with a group of kayakers: paddle a stretch of river, pitch a tent on a nice section and spend the night; next morning, paddle on. THAT's going to be roughing it - and assuming I can get off the ground in the AM - it will suffice only because I can't fit the Class C on the back of my kayak.
Dry camping is about as rough as we get, but we love it. Finding those out of the way National Campgrounds that have pit toilets that you stay well away from in the summer time. Having a campfire to toast the marshmellows on, trails to hike and possibly a fishing hole to try your luck at. What could be better.

My idea of roughing it is pushing the button to start the generator or not being able to put the slide out out.
I am so new to the RV scene. I'm happy to go with another guy-buddy hiking for three day with just a bedroll, food and water. That's not roughing it, that's hiking or going Iron John or something else. But the RV is due to a Ren Faire with my babe - I will never again share chemical porta-potties with thousands of unwashed heathen 13 miles from plumbing, electricity and cell data signal.
Previous to that, my idea of roughing it was well quoted by my friends... Roughing it is when they bolt the TV remote to the nightstand
When the pavement Ends, the fun begins, end of the 2 track road, you can step out and NOT SEE anyone around, you do with what you packed with you.
Nothing, but the wind rustling thru the sage brush and the coyotes singin in the back ground, and most of the time a small creek tumblin by the front door with pan sized trout just waiting to be caught.

The stuff I do now is "RV'ing". My friends won't even let me use the word "Camping"...

Former backpacking minimalist... RV'ing is not camping, any form, or manner. We are basically hauling around our "motel room up to house on wheels" from place to place... If you plug into anything and you have a hard roof over your head and you didn't haul it in on your back, it isn't camping or "roughing it". Of course, my mother considered "roughing it" anything short of a Hilton...
My 2 cents, your mileage may vary...
