I'm looking at a 35foot MH with a 300hp cummins. Will this motor pull a full size toad up long steep hills without bogging down?

It wont bog down but you wont get any speeding tickets.U will be down to 35-45MPH depending on length and grade

Cummins makes or made two engines with the 300 HP rating, the "B" and the "C". The ISC has more torque then the ISC, and will get up to the top of the hill faster. That said, both engines will preform just fine. You'll be able to go wherever you want.

I have a 35 ft HR Navigator with a 8.3 Cummins "C" engine rated at 300 HP, and I pull a 4,600 lb toad, all with no problems. My coach weighs 26,400 lbs.

If you want to "keep up with the big boys", you'll probably want to look for a 400 HP (ISL) or 500 HP (ISM or ISX) powered coach, but I'll warn you they are EXPENSIVE.

A simple rule of the thumb is one HP for each 100 lbs. However, it isn't HP that gets you up the hill, but torque. Torque is primarily a function of engine size.

Torque is no substitute for horespower when it comes to pulling power. In order to get the power you are talking about I would opt for the 400 HP (ISL). Every big block 460, 8.1,and V-10 will outpull the 300 HP on any grade. I have owned both and the 300 HP is a dog when it comes to climbing hills. It will definatly climb them but expect to be in the slow lane with the trucks. So to give the short answer, no it will not climb 6% or better grades without bogging down to 25-30 MPH.

I had a 40' Dynasty with the 300HP, mechanical Cummins...with it I pulled a 3150# HHR. Most "hills" in California, it pulled fine..a little gutless but workable...on the Grapevine, forget it...it struggled..same as the climb out of Indio/Palm Springs eastbound I-10...if you're not in a hurry, it will get you to the top, but it will struggle on steep climbs..if possible, minimum should be 400HP ....Dennis

Discussing HP without relating it to GCW (Gross Combined Weight) will tell you very little. Basic physics-- you are interested in the weight/HP.

And as already asked, is this a 300 HP B or C engine. Huge difference in torque.

You must be comparing coaches of significantly different weight if you believe this. I would agree that the ISB isn't the fastest up the hills, but in equal coaches it would outpull a BB V8 or a V10 any day of the week.
