I am looking to purchase a new class a with bunkhouse and would like to take delivery before October 15. I understand the pos/neg of used ownership, and wife has decided on new. So, we have been considering a Fleetwood bounder classic 34B and/or a Winnebago 32K. I am sure they are both more than enough RV to suit my families needs, leaning towards the FW as far as layout storage, but WB's reputation still has an impact on my wallet.
Negotiating wise, best I have been able to manage to date is 23% below msrp, from reading other posts, sounds like others have gotten down as low as 27% and I am sure deeper the snow / deeper the sale.
Going to attend the RV Show in Lakewood NJ next weekend to hopefully make a final decision/purchase if not at show, then immediately following.
Any thoughts or input are greatly appreciated, feel free to PM me.
Wishing you all well and thanks again for your timely input.
Did you make the Rv show in Hershey 2 weeks ago?
Thats the best place to view (about 1000 units with trailers and RVs)
Camping show in Lakewood is probably just Camping World

John, welcome to RV.Net! IMHO, I would first establish a price (motorhome budget) that you and your wife can agree on (what you want to spend) and stick to that price. Next find a coach with a floor plan and colors that you both like and know that it will fit your needs. Then narrow your search down to several vehicles and make your decision. It appears to me that you have almost done that. Years back I made the same decision as you and went new. That way I knew exactly what I was starting out with which was a relief. Good Luck and Happy Trails
I to am a former Fleetwood product owner and would never own another one. Bought a new 5th wheel and in the 18 months that I owned it, it was either at the factory or the dealership more than in my possession. It went to the dealership at least 15 times and back to the factory twice. I finally traded to a Newmar product so I could get rid of the headache and do some camping. The quality of materials and workmanship was atrocious to say the least. IMHO of your 2 choices the Winny would be on top of that list. More importantly the layout, dealership reputation and distance from your home are things to consider ahead of 2 to 4 percent difference in discount (my opinion).
Pick the best one and enjoy with your family. My adult children and now grand children recall the fond memories of going camping and the fun family times we had.
God Bless you and America; Keith
I am a current 2012 model year Fleetwood owner and cannot recommend them. We have owned it 13 weeks and its been in the service shop for 9 weeks and counting.
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday...See? There is no someday.
IMHO I would go with the Winnebago! I have owned my Winnie, DP, for 3 years and it has been great. My FIL is on his third Winnie, gasser, and loves them. We just went thru the Winnebago Plant in Forest City and it was very impressive. But what was the most impressive was how wonderful the staff there is. We came in there to have a few items worked on, roof inspected & resealed, solar panel not working, and a few other items. We did not have a service reservation and we came in on a Monday afternoon and they had our rig in at 7 am Wednesday morning. We stayed there at the plant for free with free electrical hookup. Their customer service is really outstanding. We just finished our first year full-timing so we live in our MH so we really have gotten to know it well. When we planned to get a MH and go full-timing we researched MHs for 4 years and were really looking a Tiffins, however, we got this Journey used and got a great deal on it and are really happy we did go with Winnebago. It is hard to beat a company that has been so successful for over 50 years and have not gone bankrupt. Good Luck with your MH hunting and Happy RVing.

Have you considered other brands? Our Thor ACE has an electric bunk and plenty of sleeping area to accommodate kids. But the selling points for me were price and Thor as a manufacturer. I can't say enough good things about them. Thor also owns Hurricane and Damon, both of which have bunk models at likely a much better price point than W. They aren't the Hurricane and Damon of old, they are now controlled by Thor and their standards. I have been hearing a few bad things about Winnebago. The dealer I went with sells Winnebago and Thor and said the service side of Thor was far better than Winnebago. The Winnie was a more expensive unit but the service guy actually told me you pay for the name. Not to ruffle feathers, I am sure they are still one of the best manufacturers out there, just stating what was stated to me. Maybe they had an agenda to tell me that. I don't know personally. W always seemed like a well made coach. IMHO.
I cannot give you advice regarding the brand choice but I agree with one of the other posts about not basing too much on the % off. This is a big purchase and if you buy the wrong one it will cost you much more due to loss in depreciation.
Hope you get the correct Motorhome and a good price.
Our prior rig was an Itasca Sunova 35j. They're made by Winnie and we found it to be a well made reliable unit. One downside of the Winnie products is that you are paying a premium for the name. Is it worth the cost? Perhaps.
