We are in need of replacing our Exide 6 volt batteries after about 5 years. We do some "dry" camping but mostly are hooked up to power. Camping World has Exide with about 220 AH @ 20 hr for about $150 each. Costco has some Kirkland golf cart batteries with the same rating for about $90. Is there a difference? Any suggestion? Thanks, Ron

Costco is the best deal by far. Consumer reports rates their battery's highly. Camping World has high prices on most things.

I had our coach batteries changed after five years use at Batteries Plus for about $225 total. I watched the process... they did a careful job cleaning out the box and included one corroded cable in the price.

What I did when it was time to replace my batteries was to look in the yellow pages under "Batteries Dry Cell Wholesale" and "Batteries-Storage Dealers." I discovered that most of these companies do NOTHING but sell and install batteries to commercial outfits. The dealer I purchased from sold five pallets full of the model I purchased in just one week. My replacement 6-volt batteries were rated at 232 amp hrs (122 minutes @ 75 amps, 474 minutes @ 25 amps), cost about $90 each (plus tax & cables) and were less than two weeks old - straight from US Battery Co that week. These firms will also make up custom battery cables to fit your particular installation from very flexible welding cable.

Skip the expensive Camping World battery and go to Batteries Plus. We just replaced ours too. We put in 2 batteries in parallel, replacing the single battery we had before. Total cost, about $160.

No one mentioned gel batteries (sealed). I am a believer.

There are several disadvantages to gel cell batteries for RV applications. Most importantly, they must be charged at a slower rate and a lower voltage than flooded cell batteries. Any overcharging can cause permanent damage to the cells.
Maybe you meant AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries.
