I'm just thinking of ease of operation. (I'm Lazy) I bought a Drill to raise my roof, and in truth it cost about as much as the auto lift, and there is nothing like just pressing a button to raise the roof. Fleetwood even had one that, not only raised the roof, but put the bunkends out as well.
Also something else to think about. Not all refers in pups are accessible with the top down. that is something to look at as well. I would also look at units with the table to the side, so that you do not have to climb thru the dining area to get in, and out of bed. However, One with a U shaped "Lounge" area is a great floorplan.
Terryallan - The refergerator setup you mention is my only complaint with my Viking PUP. When not in use, I leave the door locked in the "ajar" position. There is a plastic clip at the top to hold the door slightly open so mildew is not a problem. When I get ready for a trip, I like to turn on the fridge a couple of days earlier to get it cooled down for the trip. To do this, I have to open the PUP just to close the fridge door. This is not a big problem, but it is a nuisance. It would have been nicer if the layout make the fridge accessable when the top is down.

Quote: Also Rumor is. Coleman is licensing a pup company to again put the Coleman name on a pup. IF you liked the Coleman. The company that bought Fleetwood, Who actually made Colemans. Is at my last understanding. Still making pups, or getting ready to.
The company that now manufacturers Aliner introduced a new line of popups at the Hershey RV show this September called Somerset. These pups are based on the design of the original Coleman/Fleetwood/FTCA models. Blackstreet Capital, which owned FTCA, shut down the production of the popups in January of this year. They paid a licensing fee to Coleman to put their name on the trailers. As I understand it, Columbia Northwest (who owns Aliner), purchased some of the manufacturing equipment when it was auctioned off at the closed FTCA plant. They hired some of the key personnel that also worked there. I have not heard of any plans to put the Coleman sticker on these new popups, but it looks like most of the key features that drew consumers to Coleman popups in the first place will remain. I do not think they will be available for purchase until spring of 2012. However, if I was in the market for a new popup with the same features as a "Coleman", then this would be your best bet.

Speaking of Aliners; if it is just the two of you, have you considered one of the hard sided folding trailers? I too like sleeping under canvas but if you don't need the extra bunk then maybe look a different direction.

I think the aliner/somerset deal bought our FTCA's intellectual property, but not the Coleman name, which was not there to sell. Coleman retains the name, and is probably shopping it around. This will mean, I hope, two new entries into the dwindling popup lineup.
