I had the magnet surface resurfaced on my Dexter 7K drums when I replaced a couple of the magnets.Dexter recommends it whenever the magnets are replaced.
Turning them was a lot cheaper than replacing in my case.$350 for a new "never-lube"drum with a new bearing.
The brake surface was fine,no turning required. The first place I took the trailer to said that the magnet surface could not be machined. The second place said "sure,we do it all the time" I'm guessing that the first place did not have the equipment or would have liked to sell me new drums.

I had a brake lining come loose on one of my big Dexter brakes so I'm converting to disc brakes. The only problem right now is that Kodiak is not even shipping any kits until the end of October. I need to be working on it right now!
