Just got the TT back from Campers World and just as we thought it was the converter and it is all fixed and charging at 13.5 a big thank you to everyone for your input. I forgot to ask but how often should you change out the battery on the TT with this recent incident the battery went completely dead and is 2 years old now.
Battery life can vary greatly depending on use. From the research I have done online, average life expectancy for a deep cycle is anywhere from 2 years to 8 years. I had a couple of brand new 6Vs that only lasted 2 years while my FIL's lasted about 9 years.
It may be that your batteries had a build up on them from the charging, when they may not have actually needed it. If you had been able to "desulfate" them (I think that is the term?)...they might have lasted as long as your FILs. Some of the newer chargers will do this.
If there is no load on the battery during the winter, they won't drop voltage very fast, so you might have been able to go a couple months before recharge.
It's a good idea to actually test them to see, or have the 3-step chargers, that will cut off unless needed.
As for the O/P....it will depend on the use and how the batteries are maintained. If they are over-charged, they will gas, and if the water isn't montiored (or regular tap water, with minerals, is added instead of Distilled Water), you will get less life from them. If they run below 10.5 VDC to many times, they tend to not want to fully charge, and eventually you would want to replace, since you would be getting less actual use from them.
As mentioned, there are lots of factors, so it really depends. I'd be looking to replace after 5 years....putting some money aside, and watching to see how they perform. If I was planning a long trip, I'd replace them, rather than taking a chance.

I had a couple of brand new 6Vs that only lasted 2 years while my FIL's lasted about 9 years. I charged mine monthly throughout the winter and I kept solor maintainers on them, he did NOTHING...he only charged them before camping (couple of times per summer). I bought new Trojan batterries this year...they are supposed to be the best...we'll see. I removed the batteries and I am keeping them in my garage hooked to a intellegent charger/maintainer. We'll see if I have better luck with that. There is a reason that so many battery manufacturers give such short/poor warranties on deep cycle batteries. So, long story short you never really know how long a battery will last...use them til they stop holding a charge and pray you will get 8 or 9 years.
