When I had a older Dodge B I used it Daily because it got about 19-20 mpg and when I got my newer one I drove it for awhile daily until gas prices went up. The second B only got about 13 mpg and my Jeep gets 18-20. other than that I had no problems with either. It was nice to get off work and have a choice of home or...

Why did your older Dodge get better mileage than your newer one? Less weight, more economical power train, etc. What power system did you have in your older Dodge?

I was at a Safeway a couple of weeks ago and I saw a Class C with a boat hitced to it taking up several parking spaces. I wouldn't worry about a Class B being to big to take into town.

I use my B almost every day. I work 2-3 days a week and use it to run to the grocery store. I use it for doctor appointments occasionally in near-to-downtown Austin.

My husband uses our other car to get to work and he parks in a parking garage so we can't trade.

We save some money because I don't do a whole lot of shopping and buzzing around town! But I think I make up for when I shop online, especially with free shipping!

Thanks for asking-my older dodge was a shorter 1973 van with a 318 and less "stuff". My newer one is a Xplorer 360 and 20-21 ft much heavier ( better built for cold and more used storage ) I have tried to find effective modifications but other than good driving habits and correct PSI in the tires it is what it is-still I have heard of worse mileage for this unit

We had a 72 Dodge Maxi-Van Family Wagon camper conversion bought new and sold in 2003. It was the most versatile vehicle we have ever owned. Gas mileage was not great but much better than our class C. Visibility was not as good as a sedan but large side mirrors and careful lane changes weren't hard to do. Our Van conversion was very basic with a porta-potti room, an ice box and a stainless steel sink with water pumped from a fresh water tank. The rear gaucho seats converted to a large bed and there was also an overhead rear telescoping bed for kids. There was also an upholstered overhead storage shelf that we used as a bunk for the baby. With the rear seat cushions removed we could haul furniture etc., with side and rear doors. There was storage under the rear seats and some overhead cabinets and cabinets in the side doors. A Road Trek would have seemed like real luxury back then but the Family Wagon was a real step up from tent camping and was a great all around family activity support vehicle and also served as mom's SUV before there were any.

You certainly want to winterize the plumbing. If you live where there is any chance of freezing - even just overnight, you should winterize the water system. If you are driving it regularly, the rest of the van will be fine - batteries, etc.

I need to drive my Class B to work every two weeks.
(75 mile round trip)

It is nice to have as a spare in the event my truck would break down.
