got a ATWOOD G6A-7 that wont light. used it a couple weeks ago in the smokies, it sooted up the side of the camper about 2 feet up and went out. cleaned the burner tube and pilot light and got a flame out of pilot but it wont stay lit when i release the knob (its gas valve is the one you turn past the pilot mark, light and hold 30 secs and release knob). bought a new pilot/thermocoupler assy-still no joy.
the trouble shooting i've found so far says replace pilot assy, then the gas valve if that dosent cure it. havent found anyway to actually test except throw money at it. the stove does work, but water corroded the flair fitting on one tank enough to make a small leak (scince repaired) that i found when the water heater first quit. maybe the same corrosion in the gas valve?
TIA,mike

Sounds like it needs a new thermo couple, or possibly a new pilot assembly as they may be intergrated.

I was having the same problem, someone had turned down the temp gage at the unit, I was at a shop and they adjusted it and its fine now.

heres my update on this problem- but first i want to thank Old Bisquit for the link
1.first i read the troubleshooting guide- apparantly its not possible to check anyting with common home tools
2.exchanged the gas tank for a known full one
3. lit the 3 stove burners and ran the furnace at the same time. this proved pressure and flow from main TT gas regulator.
4.cleaned the pilot tube-still had weak yellow flame, and wouldnt stay lit
5.replaced pilot assy ($26) still weak flame, pilot wont stay lit
6.replaced gas valve assy (no repair parts available) $83
success! on a side note the gas valve had been there 12 years and was SUPER hard to get out. mounted a "C" clamp to it and a 30 inch pry bar through the clamp to loosen it.
