After replacing 3 trannys in new 2011 Mariner, Ford installed Remco pump at Ford expense. Only cost $$$.00 to us was to drive 600 miles to get the car after the installation. It took most of a day for Ford to install wiring etc in motorhome. Several Ford products use the same tranny, so be careful. Love the car but will not buy another Ford car with the same or similiar transmission.
PS: followed all the rules as specified in manual and never towed more than 4 1/2 hours. Usually stopped after 2-3 hours to run procedure after the first replaces tranny.

UPDATE:
My first REMCO lube pump failed 4 hours into the trip. They installed another one which has made it on one 4-hour trip (Tampa to Miami) with only a momentary beep on the control panel accompanied by red light. We take off for an extended trip in a week, I'm crossing my fingers. Buying a 2010 Ford Escape to use as my toad was the biggest automotive mistake I've ever made.

Is your Mariner FWD or AWD? Do you know for sure that they transmission fluid level was lowered properly? The reason I ask is that Ford states that the fluid should be at 185 degrees of more when the fluid level is lowered and measured. I drove our Escape around for an hour also using the transmission manually at times and downshifting. I hoped that the fluid temperature was high enough. I also inspected the level with the service rep after the Tech finished. They didn't charge for this and certified that it was adjusted properly. We've towed it over 5,000 miles with no problems - so far.
The reason I ask is that when I put a ScanGauge II in the Escape I found that under normal driving conditions the gauge rarely indicated a fluid temp as high as 185. When we stop for fuel or for the night when towing the Escape I usually head right to the Escape and turn the ignition beyond accessory and get the temperature reading of the fluid. The only time it got really hot and up to the 185 range was when towing in southern GA and FLA when the ambient temperature was also very high. I was, nonetheless, surprised that towing would result in such a high fluid temperature given there is no torque being applied.
The transmission used is the 6F35 and in February Ford withdrew its towing approval for all 2012 models sold after that date. The Escape/Mariner are not considered towable at all for 2013 regardless of the model/engine/transmission. Same with the Fusion.
We too travel with our fingers crossed.
At least Ford has continued to stand behind this transmission and did so for over 3 years while searching for a solution even though many were destroyed. When GM had problems with the Cruze it backtracked on towability almost immediately.
At this point I have to say I'm not looking forward to the day the Escape has to be replaced (it is DW's car) since I don't really know what we'd get. She insists on a small car now (old age I guess) and really loves her Escape.

I got to tell you all that I am still very concerned about this. One of the reasons I bought my new 2009 Escape (built 06/09) was because it was listed as towable, 4 wheels down. Now, a couple of years later, I am trying to get set up to tow this vehicle and I run into all these blogs and threads about transmissions burning up. While my Escape is still under the 60/60,000 powertrain warrantee (which I believe will cover a ruined transmission - providing I follow all of the rules put in place)I still do no want the hassel of losing my TOAD for a long period of time. While I am retired and on no set schedule, my wife still works, so any down time traveling is vacation time lost.
I read the entire thread about this Remco pump and all I can say is: $2400 installed? What is the thing made of?????
So, can the problem be solved by just running the Escape while it is being towed? Or am I delusional thinking that my Escape transmission will not burn up, even if I follow all the rules?
Right now I am thankful that I still have my 2000 Rodeo set up for towing - even if I have to crawl under it to disconnect the drive shaft.

Steve, your question about running the engine while towing is an interesting one. About 6 years ago a fellow at our park in FLA told me he had towed a Chev van to FLA behind his DP a few years earlier. Of course, I responded with "that van wasn't towable flat." He said "sure, we just let the engine run for the entire trip." His trip was about 1600 miles. I should mention that he was also a GM dealer. I've wondered about running the engine in our Escape as a preventative measure. Not sure how much fuel it would use idling. Anyone know?

Ford, with a little coaxing, is installing the Remco pump on their dime. That is the tack I would take, get your dealer behind you and work through the Ford regional rep to get them to install the transmission pump.

I don't know about paying $2400.00 - I paid out of my pocket to have one installed after we blew our tranny. The total bill was around $1300.00.
We now have 8600 total towing miles on the Escape with 3700 of those miles with the Remco pump.

We have gone through 3 transmissions and had the sliping issues on our Fusion as well as burning up 3 Remco pumpds all paid for by Ford. Ford told us to just keep towing and they would keep replacing as long as it was still under warranty (qwe have had for 13 months and 8500 miles). We are pursuing the Lemon-Law to get rid of the car.
