Wondering if anyone has any experience with a wireless remote starter on their Yamaha generator. I installed mine about 1 1/2 years ago and it has been flawless... until this past weekend. Now the remote key fob won't start the generator. I changed the battery in the fob. The starter battery on the generator is fully charged.
I found instructions for reprogramming both the fob and the receiver, but resetting both has had no effect. When I press the reset button on the fob, the blue light blinks like it's supposed to. I press the start, then stop button and after about 10 seconds the blue light goes out. When I press the reset button on the receiver, the green light blinks. I press the start, then stop button on the fob, and eventually the green light goes out. It's all according to the instructions. However, the fob still won't start the generator. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Seems to me that the fob is not transmitting or the receiver on the genset is not listening for the signal. Did you check the wiring on the genset? Perhaps a loose connection? Yamaha stuff tends to be good quality stuff but you never know these days.
I have a remote start but it is the after market Hayes unit. It works great if I keep the battery charged on the generator. I don't use it enough to keep it charged. Thank goodness it has a pull start and it starts on the first pull.
I wonder if it might be the fob. Can you hit a Yamaha place up for one? I'm guessing it will run you a C note or two lighter. If it is the receiver on the genny, at least you will have two fobs.
My first assumption is that it is the fob as well. When it first stopped working, I took the battery out and put it back in and it randomly worked one last time. I don't know where to go in Reno - When Cabellas opened, Yamaha took the franchise away from the local dealer I worked with and gave it to Cabellas - don't know if Cabella would have any remotes or parts. I called another dealer Yamaha listed on the web and they were out of business... Yamaha wants $92 + shipping for a new fob. If it's the receiver, it's going to be $375... not willing to part with that much right now.
