I have a 93 Winnebago Elante and was wondering about the frame extension as it is about 13' from center of axle to hitch? Thanks Jimmy

Is that the one that always looked like they used too short of a frame? There was one model that always looked strange back in those years. I would think the hitch and tow ability would be limited by the long extension. That would sure make an extra wide swing for a toad on a short turn.

My concern is the truck frame stops just behind the axle and it has a sub frame from that point on to rear and the sub frame has movement in it . Thanks Jimmy

By movement, does it just flex or does it move independent of the main frame ? There is always going to be some flex with these frame extensions and they will diminish the towing capacity .

I dont understand how it has movement?Is the main motorhome not bolted to it?

You might want to crawl under there and take a real good look for cracks etc at the joint.

I was thinking about a 27' '03 Winny Sightseer, when inspecting it I took a look under it as it was one of those that looked like the mfgr started with too short a chassis. What I found scared the heck out of me as I was thinking about towing right at the max tow rating.


There was a small strap welded on the other side but just looking at the quality of the welds was enough (with a few other things) to put me off of the unit.

If you find any issues there is a good chance a qualified welder can fix them before any long term damage is done. If you have flex issues I'd make this a top priority.

I would have a good welder check them. Not just some fly by night shop, but one with REAL good welding equipment.


4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

The normal way of repairing or adding length in large truck frames is to put an insert the truck frame and the extension. This would most likely be bolted and welded. Butt welding an extension to a frame is not a good idea especially when it is that long. I would have a certified fabricator look at that before I would tow anything of any significance. Good luck.
