We recently traveled through Indiana stopping to fuel up (diesel) at a truck stop like we normally do and were told that in Indiana RVs needed to go to the front islands. We were told it was a state law that only commecial vehicles were allowed to get fuel at the truck islands. The problem is that there was no way for us to get our rig with toad near a pump "in front". Since then we have heard that other states have adopted these same rules. Does anyone know which states have these restrictions? BTW I now make sure I have a full tank before entering Indiana.

A bald faced lie....They are just to lazy to make a price change to serve the RV community. Here is a note from Flying J about this, that was received just last week. Notice it specifically addresses the "professional diesel lanes".
Indiana and Oregon customers:
The advertised pump price at professional diesel lanes reflects the price per gallon for tax-exempt commercial vehicles. Non-commercial or private vehicles are required by law to pay state tax at the time of purchase. You will still receive cash price and $.03 discount when you use pump start but the price will first increase to represent the required state tax.

Well, I live in Oregon and I was also told Many older Truck stops do not have the ability to change pump price and in Oregon (and I guess Indiana .. ) dont charge fuel tax (about .25 ) to commercial heavy trucks they use their PUC # to verify when filling. .. they are charged per mile tax while in Oregon (send a check to the state).I have both had them be able to change the price and not .. depends on the stations pump system I guess. (I also got fuel once .25 cheaper as the clerk was so busy and confused she just told me to leave and not do it again ;-) I will say the pumps have been marked commercial vehicles only.

We use the CFN fuel system - so we have to use commercial lines.

But the OP might have been at a different truck stop. You are referring to Flying J only!

When traveling into Indiana via the toll road system, there is ample room for us RV owners to fuel up in the auto section. Sometimes you have to wait, as the island is blocked by cars. We park away from the fuel islands, then scout out the location of the diesel pumps, and on what side the fuel nozzle is located, then make our move when one opens up. Diesel pricing is confusing is almost all states, due to large trucks receiving a different price structure on their fuel.

Don't know what station you were at, but that's not true, we fill up all the time at the truck pumps in Indiana.. Most of the time you can't get to the gas pumps that has diesel especially with a 40' RV and toad..Mike M..

That seems to be a standard answer at Love's truck stops. I've been told that at three different ones, and just not in Indiana. Flying J has never given me a problem. You just have to walk in and give them your cc before you start pumping. I hate filling up at the RV island because the nozzles are set up for street vehicles (smaller than truck islands) and don't pump as fast. I can fill up almost twice as fast at the truck island.
