Yep... just for the day, probably. But from Soco Gap at Maggie Valley to Beech Gap (about 20 miles), it's closed temporarily due to 1-2" of snowfall. I think they said MP 423 to 455.
But my dad worked on Mt Pisgah for WLOS for 14 years. He saw snow flakes in the air (at least) in every month but August.

As a kid we camped along Black Balsam Rd accessible only from the parkway about 20 miles south of Pisgah. Camped as late as April, early as September and I can't remember a single trip where we didn't have at least have a dusting of snow on the truck hood at least one morning.
40 years ago, they also wouldn't close the parkway for a little bit of snow. Can remember riding down it a few times when you couldn't see the road in a lot of places. Now, seems like they close it the minute the snow starts sticking.

Now consider that this is a mountain road in a national park where they don't clear the roads for budgetary reasons or use road salt for environmental reasons, and have a very limited budget & manpower to look for survivors. Add in a few spots where going off the road a few car lengths would take you onto a 500'+ drop.... Yep, I agree with kohl... they didn't use to close it so easily. But as cars have become smarter, people have become dumber. A true act of idiocy can overcome traction & stability control, and force a rescue effort costing multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars. But we're all highly impressed with what they do in snow country, I'm sure.
There is a decent snow cover right now on the top of Roan Mountain from elevation 5000 feet on up to 6000 feet.
We live in God's land at the base of the mountain along a big bold mountain trout stream.

The Blue ridge Parkway is a national Park and uses seasonal help.
It would be absolutely stupid for them to keep a staff on all winter to clear the entire length for just a couple of cars to use.
We have skied on the BWP in three feet of snow, and I love the fact that it is closed during snowy weather.
There are gates at almost all the access points, and they only close the sections that have snow or ice.
