there are certain high deductible plans that can be sold in certain states.(i've seen them as high as 12,000 dollars.) this would be a lower upfront premium. I belive fortis is one of them.

how good the actual coverage is if it has to be used is something else.

I was wondering the same thing. Actually, that whole article seemed a bit fishy to me. Living on less than a thousand a month just doesn't seem plausable to me. I use to read Tioga George and he was damn frugal, traveled around and spent nearly double.

$1,000 a month more or less .... isn't that the poverty line for a single individual as defined by the government? DW and I sure as heck couldn't do it - even a 1K EACH a month.

Outside the norm, definitely, but it seemed plausible to me.

We're at just about $1000/month for the two of us, but we've been stationary for a little while. We don't skimp on groceries, we eat out occasionally, but we're very careful about everything else.

He mentioned that he had no rent or mortgage to pay. Must live in Walmart parking lots and use his generator a lot. The insurance cost is believeable. My son has Blue Cross Blue Shield for under $90 per month with a $2000 deductible. It will go up as he gets older obviously. My insurance and my wife's are just under $1000 per month together so this guys plan would not work for us.

I believe he has a solar set-up on his rig. He seems to find pleasant boondocking situations while he's staying in one place.

I don't understand why people find it so hard to believe someone could live a good life for under $1000 per month. My DW and I have been doing it for several years now. We are not trailer trash, we have a newer rig, we are not in poverty, we don't stay in Walmart lots, we travel, we keep our rig maintained, etc. What more can I say!

So much to experience, so little time.

I would guess he has major medical insurance but not the kind that you can just run to the doctor for every little sniffle.
