My HTT has the screw in type latches. Not only do they rust, I really don't trust them when travelling. Considering replacing them with trailer latched like those seen here; New latches on the Bunk Door

Has anyone else made this mod? Any suggestions/tips/advice? Can you see any reason why I couldn't put some diamond plate on the outside wall to reinforce the fiberglass and forego the thru bolts depicted above?

My search-fu must be waning today. I searched "bunk latch" figuring that was pretty broad and only got 3 threads, two of which were discussing repair/replacement of the old style with another old style.

EDIT: Found the magic formula. Search for "latch" and limit the search to the HTT forum only. Just using "latch" without the restriction generates too many results and buries the desired discussions in noise. Adding "bunk" greatly reduces results as other spellings like "bunk-end", "bed", and "fold out" are common.

For those who may land here later, here is a link to the search
Search the HTT forum for "latch"

Thanks for the advice.

just Google "Fastec", they make the parts that most hybrids have for the cargo-style latch system.

Found that, thanks. Is there a tension adjustment or shims for these type latches? It would seem that the thickness of the door and over/undercompression might be an issue.

Also, has anyone mounted them without drilling through? I'm thinking of affixing a piece 4"x6" stainless or diamond plate with epoxy/screws and using sheet metal screws to attach the latches to that, thus preventing interior penetrations. Not a big deal on the bunk door, but a bit unsightly on the interior walls.

Hi I did this mod last year.
You use foam or rubber pad between latch and hatch to take up any play
Also yes drill threw the bunks to mount latches and use j nuts. It will be flush with the inside of the bunk
