I have received one report of someone (in the La Penita Express caravan) being asked to produce the Certificate of health. The one that has to be issued in your home country and no more than 10 days old when you cross. He was stopped by the red light at the red light/green light area. They also want the address where you plan to stay in Mexico on the certificate. They took a stool sample.

So based on this make sure you get that certificate. the rules changed in May and it appears that they are enforcing them.

He also said they questioned his visa. He advises telling them the most southernmost point you intend to travel to.

No others have reported issue with pets to me this year. Same old, same old, but this is the first person who has pulled a red light and they seemed to be well aware of the new requirements.

How many of the vehicles were traveling with pets?
How, pray tell, did they collect a stool sample?

Does anyone else have information about this certificate. We plan on having one but will be issued Oct 27 and we don't plan on crossing over until Nov 13. It would be a long way back to Canada to get one if needed. I sure hope this doesn't become too big an issue, especially for us Canadians heading down.

Just do a quick search on this forum for pets, and all the information will come up.

I thought the Penita Express was leaving tomorrow, the 27th. Did some of them cross early, or is someone passing incorrect information? Nothing personal intended.

La Penita Express isn't leaving until tomorrow. Most of us have our paperwork all done, either by internet or by driving down to San Emirito yesterday or today. We rode down with friends and got our FMM today as we already have out TIPs, and some others got their FMM and TIP. Took the ones getting their TIP and FMM 45 min. or so to get both. If you need copies, suggest making them before as the copy machine is across the highway in the little restraunt. Someone only had copies and left the origionals back in Ajo so he had to come back and get them. Don't know about pets but we will find out tomorrow as almost all of us have either dogs or cats.

Thanks for the update. Please post any experiences with your pets! We are hoping to not have to spend the time and money to get permits for our animals. Safe travels, we are about 5 days behind you.

They must be really worried about the Mexican dogs. From what I saw, they didn't really care about most dogs.

Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

In this case it was a cat, I am guessing they raid the litter box. I am intending on explaining to my vet why I need it and asking him to postdate, if a week or 2. I am thinking the odds of being asked are slim, but if it has happened to one person it can happen to another.

Maybe we should all stay home. My gosh between not being able to leave the country, stool samples from your pet and illegal truck campers why would anyone ever go to Mexico? The reality is that nothing has changed regarding pets or truck campers. To those who read these posts. Don't worry be happy. All is well. There are at least 25 pets that have crossed to Kino since September. None have reported anything different.
