I replaced the 4 screws that hold the plastic that goes around the bottom of skylight with screws that have a snap connector on them. I cut a piece of cardboard big enough to cover the skylight but not big enough to cover all 4 holes. We had some vinyl type material at home, cut it the same as the skylight then the wife glued that to the cardboard and put the other 4 snaps in each corner. so now at night I just grab it, push the 4 snaps on each corner and its dark. We also have it for the kids room. Cheap, easy, works really well and have been using them for about 10 yrs now

If a 14"x14" standard "free flow" vent, simply install a "special order" black vent cover. For example Max-Air product at - click here -
If wondering, I installed a black Max-Air black vent cover over my kid's bedroom area and it works great. Simply leave the factory flat vent cover open 2" and it allow natural airflow as well. I also tinted my kids bedroom windows with dark limo tint film as well. Now, they sleep in - as long as they need to.

If a skylight above the bedroom, simply replace the existing clear/white skylight cover with a special order black tint skylight outerside cover. For example: - Click Here -
If one cannot afford a new skylight cover, perhaps painting its underside with black paint might help instead. Especially if one doesn't like doing their own DIY skylight dome replacements.
Hope this helps...
