My husband and I are traveling from Washington state to Nevada and stopped in La Pine, OR overnight. We have a 2010 Cougar RLS25 with Polar package. On the advice of the park host we filled up our fresh water tank to 2/3rds full and did not hook up to city water. We kept the furnace going at about 70 degrees and it was 69 when we got up this AM. It got way below freezing last night here. But we had frozen lines anyway apparantly. We do get some water and pump activity when we turn on the bathroom faucet but not in the kitchen. We desperately need to get back on the road this AM but are worried we will crack something if we move the trailer. We are in the middle of moving and once we get to Sparks we will be in a RV park while we are house hunting. So we know this will be an ongoing situation that we need to deal with asap once we get there. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Open the doors under both sinks and if you have a cover to access pump, remove it as well.

If there is one we sure haven't found it. Have all the doors open and covers off of everything else we can find. Have the heat running constantly and a space heater rotating around all the open spaces.

You can safely move the trailer. If anything is broken from freeze damage, it has already been done. I bet everything will be fine when you get to a warmer climate.

Hi,

You have a fairly new RV with pex water lines. They are forgiving about being frozen. Keep the heat on, the pump off, and go south!

You may wish to read this thread:

Thanks Dave, we think that's what we are going to do. Wish us luck.

Thanks Don. I did a search but couldn't quite find our situation.

I'm GUESSING that you have some plumbing that does not run entirely above the floor. If this is the case AND your holding tanks are heated from the furnace then it is very important to use ONLY the furnace for heating instead of using electric space heaters. May not apply to you but just something to consider.

I'd take note of the CURRENT temperature and make the decision to leave based on that. If it's still below freezing then I'd sit and as suggested try to expose frozen pipes to heat as much as possible until you thaw out the frozen pipes. If it's above freezing then I'd leave the furnace running with thermostat set on lowest setting and hit the road. Stop every now and again to check the water situation. Not likely you'll freeze anything more than it already is and BETTER odds it will thaw while you travel.

Good luck / Skip

Hi Cindy,

I've been in your situation. Get in. Drive South. All will be well. You do not have a "total" freeze up. Just the line to the kitchen is frozen.

The numbskulls that design our RV's do stupid things such as leaving the metal of the wheel wells uninsulated, and then running a water line over them laying on the bare metal. DAMHIK

If the unit has an out door shower, there are essentially three square inches of holes that probably allow cold air to flow almost unimpeded to the area under the kitchen cabinets. DAMHIK #2
