I'd have to look to be sure but on our '02 E-350 the tie rods have the zerks in them from the factory. the what used to be king pins, now ball joint have the plugs. just remove one of the plugs and get zerks with the same thread as the plug. I would think, from your picture, fig. 4 or 3 would be what I would use. I haven't decided yet to install the zerks.

Dusty, I understand that any responsible dealer will ask if you want the zerks put in at the first service visit, its amazing that Ford will tap and cap but not install the fittings at the factory.

Added Zerks to the upper & Lower Ball joints.

My 2006 already has 5 zerks on the drag link / tie rod ends.

In removing the The plugs on the Ball joints I used a 9/32" socket on a 1/4" drive. I used a Straight zerk on the bottom ball joint and a 45° on the upper ball joint.

when Greasing the ball joints it took only 2 pumps of the hand grease gun to expand the rubber boot on the LOWER ball joint and the start of a small amount of grease oozing out. The Upper ball joint I pumped 8 - 10 times and never saw any grease oozing out but stopped at that point to prevent any damage to the seals.

it's a easy 5 minute job to replace the plugs with Zerks on the ball joints.

I'll bet they only grease the tie rod and drake link. Most of those have grease have the zerks on them, but the ball joints have plugs.
Also the u-joints on the drive shaft used to have grease zerks, but the newer rigs do not.

Thanks for the heads up, I just went under mine and added zirks. I love this thing!!!! While I am at it, any preventive tips for me to do to the E450 based class C? Typical fluid changes etc are always done as well as a spare serpentine just in case, but what else will help me not break down in the middle of now where? I am considering a TPMS but they are a bit spendy. Any opinions? (Like opening pandoras box

YES. E450 is the only Ford with a driveshaft-mounted parking brake. It's mounted at the rear of the transmission, has its own bearings, and is NOT lubed by the transmission. I believe it's lubed with automatic trans fluid through its own filler plug on the driver side. The brake can lose a seal and drain into the transmission, then burn out a bearing or two.
