For those that stay in some of these places, do you put your slideout out? For me mine has to be out or I cant get to the rest room...I would be worried about someone getting to close and hitting it or is it not an issue?

We will put out our small bedroom slide sometime but only when we are parked either on the perimeter of the lot or where a light pole or something similar can provide protection from the traffic pattern.

We usually call ahead to whatever campground we decide to stay at. She can figure out by 3PM where we will be by 5 or 6. If I can find fuel easily we sometimes stay hooked up. Otherwise I unhook and have a full tank before we leave in the morning. It's pretty easy if you have a "NEXT EXIT and a good campground directory" Most of the time the piece of mind of knowing we are safe in a camp ground is worth the $30 to us.

We have stayed at Flying J a couple of times...both in the RV area and the Truck area....I have found its cheaper to go to a CG... DW wants dinner and Brekky and a T shirt.........when adding the costs....CG wins every time

That could have been me! If it was in Pass Christian Mississippi. Walmart was right on the Gulf of Mexico. Probably the best "campsite" I've ever had. Stayed there 3 days. Just west of Biloxi, right up the road from the wartime home of Jefferson Davis.
It was all blown away by hurricane Katrina.

I no longer stay in Walmarts or truckstops. Not that I'm not still a tightwad, the savings just ain't worth it. I mean what would it cost to arm yourself enough to stay those places?
Just too many assaults in those places for me.

X2

Wal-Mart is the RV'ers friend. Boneheads like him have no common sense.

You know, I don't know that I agree w/ this. When and if I ever do use a Walmart parking lot, which isn't often, I always end up spending $$$ in the store. It's one of the first places I go to buy RV supplies and equipment. Usually significantly less expensive than Camping World, or other RV supply centers. So I always park in the furthest edge of the parking lot. Furthest, Furthest, Furthest. I've never set up for a long stay, just a nap and a quick bite to eat, but I wouldn't see why putting out the awning and a couple chairs would be a problem. I think it would give a good image for Walmart.

I assume those that see nothing wrong with setting up a "campsite" in a parking lot has gone inside, and asked the manager if it's OK to setup "camp" with chairs and awning out. Right? surely they didn't just assume it was OK.

I can't speak for the other bonehead but personally I asked the manager on every shift if I was still OK. I even asked about the awning & lawnchair.
Because I didn't know all of the unwritten rules about staying at Walmarts. They don't have WiFi at Walmart.
