Hi all,
I'm visiting from the Class C forums, and need a little info for my neighbors.
They have a new to them Fleetwood American Tradition 40 DP, and haven't been able to get their water heater to work. My husband is going to go over and help them troubleshoot it tonight, since they are heading back to Florida early in the morning.
Since they bought it in florida about a month ago and had to have it "de-winterized" right before they took possession, my guess is they actually still have the water heater by-passed for winterization. Since we have a Class C Winnebago, we aren't completely clueless, but can someone give us some ideas about where to start looking for the WH by-pass, or any other trouble shooting ideas?
Thanks,
P.J.

Make sure any other source (outside shower with hose button) hot water spigot is shut off. I found this out from other forum members. Is it lighting on gas?

The water heater bypass valves are almost always on the back side of the the heater itself. Find it on the outside of the coach, figure out which cabinet it's hiding behind and look inside!

IF they've been running the water heater with it in bypass mode it may not do any good to open it up now as the electric element is more than likely gone by now. It will probably have either a single valve or a double valve system so if ht has two both will have to be correctly set. One line allows cold water into the tank and the other valve closes the bypass line that goes around the tank.

Your bypass valves could be on the back side of the water heater as most RVs are this way. But on your big class A you may have valves built into your water closet in the basement. If so they should be clearly marked "water heater bypass" . Those are the only two places I have seen them with a couple of rare exceptions.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. It was even simpler than that. They didn't know there was a switch to run it on auto or from propane.
I guess they took delivery of it so quickly there wasn't time for a walk through. These folks are completely new to any kind of RV and are learning as they go.
We went in with them last night after I posted and showed them the basics that we know about. They've got about a million more buttons and controls then our 2006 Winnebago but the basics are the same.
Thanks again.
