The bottom plastic hinge on my Norcold fridge door broke last night. Did a little web searching and found this is not a new problem, but didn't find a repair for it.

Anyone know if there is a fix? I hate to buy a complete door just for a hinge that was poorly designed. Actually, it seems the door was poorly designed.

Sorry to hear of your woe....I'm very familiar with it. Unfortunately, the proper repair is to replace the door. Somewhere in 2006 they went from a metal hinge set up to the plastic POS door.

I have friends that have "JB Welded" (2 part expoxy) the plastic piece that broke off with some degree of success......

The bottom line is you need to take the heavy items out of the door when traveling. We mainly use the plastic non skid stuff we use to put in shelves and the like, and stack stuff that normally is in the door and stack it on it side on the bottom shelf. It's amazing how much stuff on that bottom shelf. Hope something helps! rockin'

Same thing happen to my in-laws. I when out to Home depot and bought a strip of sheet metal and made a replacement hinge. Then screwed it to the bottom of the door. I made it about 5” long and rounded the corner. It took an hour to make and did it with hand snips and a drill. PM me you’re your number and I can call you and talk you thought it if you like.

sncraig has it right.I had the same problem and used a piece of stainless steel cut it to fit, drilled a hole in it to accommodate the pin, then screwed and epoxied it to the bottem of the door.Made it better then new.

Fixed mine with Gorrilla Glue, two years later still holds. Can't say much for Norcold products, besides door problem, replace thermister and suspect circut board is going next.

Mine broke a few months ago and I took a 2" L bracket, straightened it out, drilled out a hole to match the hinge pin and 3 holes to attach it to the bottom of the door. Attached it with sheet metal screws and the door is better than new.

It's amazing that that expensive refrigerator is made so cheaply.

Norcold has a "KIT", part number is 634166. Cost $38. It will not fix a broken door. But if you have one of the doors that could break it's bottom hinge. It will prevent it from breaking.
The suggestion for making a metal bracket for bottom of door is a way to fix a broken door.
Purchase of a new door will cost about $120.
Almost everyone of the Jayco Seneca owners on the Kodiak chassis forum has had a door failure.

I managed to repair mine with a strip of sheet metal cut 1/2 in. wide and about 3 in. long. I used that and four very small self-tapping screws to bind the broken hinge together. Seems to have done the job. I'm storing brewskies in the door again.

Semi-"retarred" in 2006. :-) 2008 Newmar Cypress 5th wheel, 2008 Dodge diesel dually to pull it with.
