This season, our flush ball started leaking the bowl dry. I cleaned it good and it worked for the rest of the season, but now it won't seal at all. The ball closes, just won't hold water very long. I saw somewhere that turning the ball seal to a different spot will allow it to make a new micro scratch pattern and will probably fix my problem for a year or so. Anyone have experience with this? Looks like individual parts are not too pricey, but complete rebuild kits run into $100 + dollars.

My toilet did that. I put olive oil in toilet and let it sit a few weeks. That was over a year ago and problem has not returned. Might be worth a try?

Just needs a new seal.....if the oil trick doesn't work.
Course it has to seal enough so that the oil doesn't leak out

It usually is easier to remove toilet and then separate/replace seal then to try and separate toilet in place. Hard to reach some of the stuff.

I'm subscribing to this thread to find an answer.I cleaned the groove with a coat hanger, still leaked. I tried the vegetable oil, motor oil, vaseline the seals trick, no dice. I replaced the seal 6 months ago ($36!) and it started leaking again last week. Took it completely apart, completely cleaned the seals and grooves and it held water for another 3 days. If this is typical of an expensive, porcelain bowl toilet, I'm going back to the cheap plastic Thetford!
On Edit: Thanks for the cheap seals link Bob! That might be feasible.

I need to use vinegar sometimes because of the water in Az. this cleans off the mineral from the rubber seal and cleans the ball. It has been good since we left washington st sept 28th. I used mineral oil in the toliet during the summer months.

Call the manufacture and tell them your problem and they will send you the parts for free.

The seal has to be in a certain position so it can't be turned..
Pam cookng spray works well to aid in sealing.
