As long as they are filled properly (by weight), then there is room for expansion due to higher ambient temps. Doug
If they are filled, by whatever method you choose, and are painted black, in the summer sun, the tanks will easily exceed 140-160 degrees (based on the temps that my spare hitch, painted black reached sitting in summer sunlight). There is not enough room for the propane to expand without venting at those temps.

The ONLY correct method is by weight, not volume and as I stated, IF filled correctly will NOT vent due to high ambient temps. IF you find a filler that fills by volume and uses the 80% valve to spew liquid, then the tank is already overfilled. IF you are experiancing a problem with venting in those temps, then you need to verify CORRECT by weight filling. In Texas, by LAW, you can only fill by weight which is the National gas code also. We had 115 ambient this summer and NONE of the tanks we had filled for all our sold trailers ever spewed. That was easily 400- 20 and 30 lb tanks. AND, we had NO customers calling complaining about tanks spewing. Because, they are filled correctly by weight, which allows expansion in the tank. Doug

Have hunted deer and elk above 10k for many years. The propane griddle and range we used in our 12 man tent always worked great!
We always leave the tanks outside in the snow and often -0 weather.

No, Dave -- the tanks and the batteries will have the bed, and I will sleep on the floor.
